World-class Oregon High Desert Classics horse show underway

A world-class horse show, the Oregon High Desert Classics, is currently underway in Central Oregon, hosted by J-Bar-J Ranch. This nationally recognized hunter-jumper show, featuring more than 240 horses and riders, offers free admission to the public.

The annual event serves as one of J-Bar-J’s most important fundraisers. More than 240 horses and riders are participating, traveling from across the West Coast and Canada. The competition highlights hunter-jumper disciplines; hunters navigate obstacle courses demonstrating skill and grace, while jumpers aim to complete courses of tall jumps as quickly as possible.

Daily events are running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Chief Keith Riggs Operating Officer for J BAR J, invited the public to experience the event. “Anybody looking to come out and join us, events start about 830 in the morning and run through 330 in the afternoon,” Riggs said. “That’s that’s all day to day. Tomorrow’s event, the again, the, Grand Prix being the highlight event starts at about 4:00. At any time, it’s free for the public to come out and see and enjoy again. Bring your lawn chairs, bring a blanket, whatever you choose. And come out and see a world class event.” Beyond the competition, attendees can find additional attractions such as food carts and shops. An on-site chiropractor is also available for both people and horses. J-Bar-J is a 21 Cares for Kids partner.

The Grand Prix, described as the highlight event, is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, July 11, 2026. Other daily events will also continue tomorrow, running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
