OKLAHOMA CITY (KOCO) — After a little Disney magic put an Oklahoma City mobile library in the national spotlight, thousands of books were donated across the country. Now, they are about to find their way into the hands of Oklahoma children.

It all started with three sisters who turned a bright blue bus into Seas the Day Mobile Library. While it may look like a school bus on the outside, it is a classroom and a library on the inside, bringing books, literacy and STEM activities directly to children across Oklahoma City.

Last year, Disney took notice.

“Because of your hard work and your commitment to the community, Disney Parks is sending you and your family to Walt Disney World,” said a spokesperson for Walt Disney World last year.

Along with the trip, Disney donated 1,000 books. Then, their story took off online.

Books began to arrive from across the country, filling up an entire storage unit.

“The support has almost been overwhelming. It’s like dang. I don’t know what to do with it,” said Carlesia Thompson, co-founder of Seas the Day Mobile Library.

Instead of storing the books, the sisters are giving them away. On July 10, they will host a free community book fair that is open to everyone.

“We just want to put books in homes,” Thompson said.

The bus will be parked outside Kipp OKC College Prep from 2 to 5 p.m. Children of all ages can pick out a new favorite book.

“It feels so great because we do this for a reason, and it feels so good to know that people share our mission,” Thompson said. “Because now we see people in other states say, ‘I want to do this where I live.’”
