Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for deadly shooting from February 2025

A Columbia man was sentenced on Monday after he pleaded guilty to multiple felonies in a February 2025 shooting.

Terrell Fields pleaded guilty on Monday to unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and stealing a gun. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He had been charged with second-degree murder.

Also on Monday, Fields pleaded guilty in a second case to first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest by fleeing. His seven-year sentence in that case will run at the same time of his 20-year sentence.

He is accused of shooting and killing Kaidynce Payne in a Super 8 hotel room on Feb. 19, 2025, on Clark Lane. Payne, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness allegedly told police that Fields was “playing” with the gun when he fired, court documents in previous reporting say. Fields had initially denied any involvement in the shooting, previous reporting shows.

Woman charged with murder in MU student’s death to remain committed to Department of Mental Health, has hearing set for January 2027

A woman who is accused of killing a University of Missouri student and burning his body in 2023 is still not mentally fit to stand trial, according court documents filed on Monday.

Emma Adams, 24, of Columbia, is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with evidence and abandoning a corpse in the death of Samuel Clemons.

Adams has been committed since November 2023, but hurdles occurred at the time for a mental evaluation. An evaluation on Jan. 21, 2025, determined that she was not mentally fit to stand trial, as was an evaluation on Sept. 29, 2025. Multiple continue orders for commitment were filed throughout the case.

A mental evaluation on May 27, 2026, determined she is still not fit to stand trial, which lead to Monday’s extended order. A hearing has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2027.

Adams was arrested and charged in January 2023 after an investigation that started at the University of Missouri led to police finding a burned body in a residential area far from campus.

Police initially couldn’t identify Clemons’ body because of its condition. Clemons was 21 years old at the time of his death.

Previous reporting indicates the investigation started when University of Missouri police officers were sent to Hudson Hall at about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11, 2023, for a welfare check, which led them to the 2400 block of Bentley Court in north Columbia.

Officers found Clemons’ body there and called Columbia police for a homicide investigation. Adams allegedly claimed self-defense in the stabbing and burning.

Locomotive FC offers ‘First Stop’ youth soccer program

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — A youth soccer program under the El Paso Locomotive FC aims to help young players fall in love with the sport before diving into competition. The First Stop Recreational Program is open for children ages 5-9, according to the Locomotive FC.

Players will learn the basics of soccer, build teamwork, sportsmanship and the “freedom to try, fail, and to try again.”

In a news release, the FC said youth sports can move toward competition too fast before children find passion for the game. First Stop wants players to understand that growth in sport is a journey, not a race.

First Stop also wants to welcome families who may be new to organized soccer.

“If we nurture those first moments with care, patience and purpose, we help cultivate not only better players, but a stronger soccer culture for El Paso for years to come,” the FC said.

Each season is 10 weeks long, according to the FC website, and has a total of eight games. The starting date is set for Sept. 7 and ends Nov. 14.

Practices are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

Gamedays take place on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings each week at the Sunland Park Sports Complex.

Paying for the program covers administrative costs, coaching resources, field rentals, equipment, and a ticket to a Locomotive home match, according to the FC.

Players will need long socks over shin guards, sneakers or cleats, a soccer ball and Locomotive jerseys. The FC said players will get their jerseys at the meet and greet a week before the season starts.

Bend-La Pine School District launches free summer meal program for kids ages 1 to 18

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — When the school year ends, free summer meals for all children and teens in Bend and La Pine begin. The Bend-La Pine School District’s Summer Meal Program is now open, offering free breakfast and lunch to kids ages 1 through 18, regardless of income. No sign-up, paperwork or income verification is required. Just show up.

The program, which has been running for more than 30 years, will operate from mid-June through late August. Meals must be eaten on-site at participating locations in Bend, though adults can purchase meals for about $5.

This summer, the district is especially excited to expand access for La Pine families. For the first time, La Pine Elementary will offer a non-congregate meal service, allowing people to pick up meals and take them home. The La Pine site will also be open seven days a week for students.

Five locations in Bend will serve meals, including R.E. Jewell Elementary, where Principal Jesse Rasmussen says the program fills an important gap.

“During the school year, we’re able to provide breakfast and lunch, for free to students. During the summer, they aren’t in school, and so they don’t have access to that. But this allows them to come in and get lunch, for free. Which is a nice benefit,” Rasmussen said. “The other kind of side benefit for us is that it can help maintain some of our community feel for the students. Where families can come and see each other, at, you know, here at the site, and hang out with each other and play on the playground for a little bit, get some food, and kind of maintain that community feel, from one school year to the next school year.”

The Bend locations include Boys & Girls Club – Ariel Glen, Boys & Girls Club – Downtown Bend, R.E. Jewell Elementary, Ponderosa Elementary and Westside Village Magnet. Depending on the site, students will receive breakfast, lunch or both.

Garra Schluter, the district’s Director of Nutrition Services, said the menu follows guidelines from the Oregon Department of Education and is designed to mirror what students eat during the regular school year.

“We’ll do we usually always have a fruit and vegetable of some sort or a salad or something. We will do pizzas. We make our pizza from scratch. We will do, pasta dishes. So macaroni and cheese that we make, we also have, like a beef baked ziti that we’ll do, we’ll do sandwiches, of course, once in a while,” Schluter said. “So it’s, it’s, it follows typically what our, our normal meal service during this school year is. It’s just it’s a one choice as opposed to having multiple choices. And that’s kind of our goal is to, introduce foods that maybe they don’t try at home, and maybe they’ll learn to like something, you know, different.”

The program is generally closed on weekends, as well as on June 19 and July 3.

In addition to free on-site meals, Oregon is offering the Summer EBT program for 2026. Qualifying families can receive a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child on an EBT card to help buy groceries during summer break. Families already receiving SNAP, TANF or certain Medicaid levels get these benefits automatically. New families can apply online at the Oregon Summer EBT website. The application deadline is September 1, 2026.

Family in Calexico seeks help after house fire

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) – A house fire in Calexico caused significant damage, leaving a family without a home.

The fire left more than half of the home uninhabitable and destroyed most of the family’s belongings last Friday.

Firefighters say the fire started in the back patio close to the grill.

Three children and their grandfather were safely evacuated, and now, the family is seeking community support while temporarily living in Mexicali.

“It’s something new to us that we don’t wish it upon anybody. It’s a sensation that it’s very, very complicated to explain to three little kids that miss their house. They want to be in their house that ask what happened. And, well, it’s a shock to everybody,” said Stephanie Zamarripa, fire victim.

Friends and family have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the fire victims. It has a goal of $7,000, with $1,870 raised so far.

Firefighter treated for heat exhaustion after Lake of the Ozarks fire

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion after responding to a house fire early Tuesday in Sunrise Beach, according to a press release from the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District.

Crews were called to a home in the 100 block of Via Cresta Drive at 3:40 a.m. for a fire that led a home to partially collapse, the release says. The first crews arrive by water, but the boat was sent back to dock after a storm rolled in while more firefighters were at the scene, the release says.

No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is under investigation. A nearby home had exterior heat damage reported.

The fire was considered under control at 6:11 a.m.

According to the resort, the show is taking place Friday, October 9, 2026 at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Engvall is best known as one of the members of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, along with Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White.

CBP warns travelers of delays and construction at San Luis I Port of Entry

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is warning travelers to plan for potential delays when traveling from San Luis, Mexico to the United States through the San Luis I Port of Entry vehicle lanes.

According to CBP, construction will begin Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the port of entry and will last for about four to five months.

During that time, CBP says crews will “install new equipment to enhance operations and infrastructure,” and says, “While vehicle processing will continue, travelers should anticipate potential delays.”

CBP says they are encouraging travelers to allow extra time when crossing the border as well as monitor border wait times through their website or the Border Wait Times app.
