Scammers targeting Idaho permit applicants with fake invoices, AG warns

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) — Idaho’s Attorney General is warning consumers about a scam targeting people applying for permits and development projects in the Treasure Valley.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, scammers are obtaining public information submitted to local planning and development departments and using it to send fraudulent emails and invoices demanding payment.

Officials say the scam has affected planning departments in Boise, Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell.

“Idaho’s growth has made families a target,” Attorney General Raúl Labrador said in a statement. “Scammers are pulling public permit records and sending fake invoices designed to look official and counting on people to panic and pay first, ask questions later.”

The emails often contain official logos, employee names, contractor information, project details and addresses, making them appear legitimate. The messages typically claim a project will be delayed or canceled if payment is not made immediately.

Authorities say payments are often requested through wire transfers, gift cards or cryptocurrency ATMs which are common warning signs of fraud.

“As scams continue to evolve, we encourage our customers to please reach out to us to confirm any requests for funds,” said Rodney Ashby, planning and zoning director for the City of Nampa.

Boise officials say the city will never request payment by wire transfer for planning application or permitting fees.

“Phishing scams continue to be a concern, and we want to be clear that the city will never request payment by wire transfer for planning application or permitting fees,” said Maureen Brewer, director of Boise’s Planning and Development Services.

Consumers are encouraged to contact their local planning department directly before sending money if they receive a suspicious payment request.

29-year-old Rolla woman dies in Phelps County crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 29-year-old Rolla woman died in a crash on Sunday in the 21000 block of Route J in Phelps County, according to a Missouri State Highway crash report.

The report says the crash occurred when a 2005 Toyota Camry – driven by a 21-year-old Rolla man – was heading southbound when it went off the right side of the road.

The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go off the left side of the road, the report says. The driver overcorrected again and went off the right side of the road, causing the Toyota to hit a fence and tree, the report says.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:40 p.m. by the Phelps County Coroner, the report says. Neither person in the vehicle wore a seatbelt, according to the report.

The man had serious injuries and was brought to Phelps Health in Rolla by ambulance, according to the report. The woman’s body was brought to Rolla Cremation and Memorial.

MSHP reports do not name those involved in crashes.

Splash House is set to make its highly anticipated return to Palm Springs in August of 2026, unveiling an expansive lineup that once again blends some of electronic music’s biggest names with rising stars across house, techno, bass, indie dance, and beyond. Taking place over two weekends, the beloved desert festival continues its tradition of transforming boutique resort hotels into vibrant poolside venues before extending the party each night with its signature After Hours series at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

The festival kicks off with one of its most eclectic lineups to date, headlined by a special DJ set from genre-defying producer Kenny Beats. Also performing, indie favorites Foster The People, will take to the decks for a rare DJ set, while UK house standout Josh Baker, Australian tastemaker Mall Grab, techno heavyweight Layton Giordani, and Irish rave favorite KETTAMA bring their signature sounds to the desert.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal shooting of 49-year-old woman

MADISON COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that left a 49-year-old woman dead Sunday evening.

Deputies were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a residence at 4021 N. 5725 E. in Madison County following a report of a shooting.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies found Lesa Perrenoud, 49, unconscious inside the home. Deputies and emergency medical personnel immediately began lifesaving efforts.

Perrenoud was flown by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where she later died from her injuries.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Authorities have not released additional details as detectives continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews.

Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to Perrenoud’s family and loved ones.

Comite Civico del Valle and the Becoming Project host Community Resource Fair

CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KYMA) – Two organizations in Imperial County teamed up to host an event to help support local families and workers.

The Community Resource Fair took place Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Bill E. Young Middle School, located at 220 S. International Blvd, at 8:30 a.m.

During the event, hosted by Comite Civico del Valle, Inc. (CCV) and The Becoming Project, attendees “participated in workshops supported by the Agricultural Labor Relations Board on three key topics: workers’ rights, the risks of extreme heat and pesticide exposure, and air quality.”

There were also a variety of fun activities, a complimentary breakfast and snow cones, and free raffles for prizes such as bicycles and scooters.

Agustin Martinez, Environmental Outreach Supervisor for CCV, said, “Education on workplace issues and environmental topics helps strengthen our community. By listening to residents and understanding their concerns, the state and local non-profits can provide information, resources, and opportunities that enable informed participation in decisions affecting their lives.”

“Access to accurate information is the foundation for meaningful participation in our communities. When people understand the policies, resources, and opportunities available to them, they are better equipped to make informed decisions and advocate for themselves and their families,” said William Cooper, Executive Director for The Becoming Project.

A couple of Imperial County residents shared their experience attending the fair, with one of them emphasizing the importance of events like the fair.

“At times, people may not know where to turn for reliable information or how to navigate the programs, policies, and resources available to them,” said Isabel Lopez, a resident of Calipatria. “Access to trusted guidance can help community members better understand the options and services that are available.”

“We were here connecting and learning about all the benefits and all the help we can receive. Sometimes we’re not even aware of what’s available,” said Maria Lizaola, a resident of Brawley. “That’s why it’s so important to come to the meetings and events that Comité Cívico del Valle offers.”

While the fair ended, CCV is offering Imperial County residents many ways to stay connected.

“We have many ways to connect…through social media, by visiting our offices, or with a simple phone call. We are there at the community’s service,” Martinez shared.

Yuma Territorial Prison to celebrate 150 years on July 1

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – The Yuma Territorial Prison is celebrating 150 years this week.

The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area (YCNHA) says the prison opened its gates back in 1876, celebrating a century and a half of history at one of the Arizona’s most visited historic landmarks.

YCNHA says a fundraising goal of $150,000 has been set to support maintenance, historic preservation and enhancements in order to ensure the prison remains structurally sound and engaging for the future.

The celebration will officially begin Wednesday to commemorate the day the prison opened its gates.

There will also be an event, taking place Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., where families are invited to experience the prison “in a fun and engaging way.”

Phelps County coroner says car in garage led to 5 deaths earlier this month

The Phelps County coroner announced in a Monday social media post that a car that was left running in a garage on June 19 led to the deaths of five people.

Four men and a woman were found dead that day in a home in the 11000 block of Village Circle in Rolla, the post says.

“Autopsies and toxicology’s have been completed and we are waiting on those results. We know there has been a lot of rumors out about this tragic event, we can say yes there was a car left running in the garage, which was the source of the carbon monoxide, yes, there is 4 males and one female all adults, these are the facts, all other information that has been put out is simply not true,” Monday’s social media post says.

Another person was critically injured, someone in the other side of the duplex had moderate injuries and a deputy was exposed to carbon monoxide, according to previous reporting.

Monday’s post says three of the victims were Honduran nationals, one was a Mexican national and another was a Guatemalan national. Four of the victims’ bodies are being transported to their original country and the coroner’s office wrote it is “working diligently to make sure the final victim’s disposition, and destination is achieved appropriately and expediently as possible.”

Police identify Columbia man who died in I-70 crash on Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 69-year-old Columbia man died from injuries he suffered in a crash on Saturday afternoon, the Columbia Police Department announced in a Monday social media post.

The post says Elbert Allen was driving east on Interstate 70 at 1:30 p.m. Saturday when he crashed his vehicle into a guardrail near the 123-mile marker, which is just west of the Stadium Boulevard exit.

Allen was brought to an area hospital in critical condition, but later died from his injuries, police wrote.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Bubba’s 33 says they are donating $1.00 to Homes For Our Troops for every Patriot Burger sold throughout the month of July.

The restaurant says they are partnering with the organization to “raise money to help build specially adapted homes for post 9/11 veterans, severely injured in the line of duty.”

In addition, the restaurant says they are partnering with Harley Davidson to giveaway a Fat Boy motorcycle.

Back in 2024, the restaurant says they “contributed the full cost of the 400th specially-adapted custom home for Marine LCpl. Alberto Flores Jr.,” who was severely injured while serving in Iraq, resulting his right leg above the knee being amputated, “and his family in New Braunfels, Texas.”

Former MU student gets 10-year sentence in residence hall strangling case

A former University of Missouri student who was accused of strangling a victim at a residence hall last year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Maxwell Warren, 19, of Overland Park, Kansas, pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of second-degree domestic assault and one count of fourth-degree domestic assault. He is currently being held at the Boone County Jail.

He was originally charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic assault, first-degree domestic assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.

He pleaded guilty to strangling the victim in their dorm room in September after they had blocked him on Snapchat. He had also allegedly assaulted the victim in October 2025. A witness also reported seeing Warren assaulting a woman near the parking garage on Virginia Avenue.

Warren was subsequently banned from campus after he was charged in November.

Warren had prior criminal charges in Kansas as a juvenile, which included making a criminal threat and violating an order of protection.
