SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – The San Luis Obispo County Superior Court found sufficient evidence to hold former priest Theodore Edward Gabrielli to answer on 24 felony counts of child molestation against four victims.

The SLO County DA’s Office is contemplating additional file charges which it believes were proven at the hearing.

A judge heard testimony from four victims, who are now adults, over a four-day preliminary hearing. The alleged offenses happened from 1991 to 2010 across six different counties in California.

Gabrielli is scheduled to return to court on July 14 and he remains in custody at the SLO County Jail without bail, according to the SLO County DA’s Office.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The Foresters bounced back from their first loss on the year with an emphatic 19-2 thrashing of the Conejo Oaks.

The Foresters banged out 17 hits with Makani Nabarro (Hawai’i) and Marcus Greis (TCU) collecting three hits apiece. Greis knocked in 4 runs for the 5-1 Foresters.

UCSB pitcher Calvin Proskey pitched 5 innings for the Foresters allowing 2 runs and striking out 4.

The Foresters host the MLB Academy Barons on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – CAL FIRE SLO crews are battling a 200-acre grass fire near Highway 58 in the California Valley.

The fire broke out just past noon, and forward progress stopped around 2:15 p.m., according to CAL FIRE SLO.

Crews reached full containment of the fire at 3:30 p.m. and reported no injuries from the incident, according to CAL FIRE SLO.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and more information will be provided once available.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) It’s opening weekend for Circus Vargas at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara.

The circus is at the Earl Warren Showgrounds is presenting a new show entitled “Masquerade.”

The audience applauded high wire walkers during the early matinee.

On weekends there are 3 shows a day.

Circus Vargas owner and CEO Katya Arata-Quiroga said it is fun for the whole family.

“We have an amazing show you know; motorcycle rider, high wire, jugglers, comedians, it is a 2-hour show, it is fantastic and it is good for the whole family, that is the most important thing, everyone will love Circus Vargas, whether you are two-years-old or 99-years-old,” said Arata-Quiroga

Circus Vargas will be in Santa Barbara through Monday, June 22.

The circus will moves to The Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo from June 26-July 20.

VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT)  Whale watchers on board Island Packers cruises have been spotted blue whales.

Blue whale sightings have happened near Santa Cruz island.

Whale watching cruises depart form the Ventura Harbor at 10 a.m. and return around 4 p.m.

The cruises also include a visit into the Painted Cave on Santa Cruz.

It is one of the largest sea caves in the world.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Luke Cornelison (Arkansas) delivered a game-winning, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 6-5 victory over the Academy Barons.

UCSB pitcher AJ Krodel fired four scoreless innings in his first start of the summer for the Foresters who improved to 6-1 on the year.

Krodel struck out 8 batters and allowed just two hits.

Santa Barbara hosts the San Diego Bombers at 2 p.m. at Eddie Mathews Field at Santa Barbara High School.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – A car crashed into a tree at the intersection of Shoreline and Loma Alta Drives just past 1:00 p.m. Sunday, according to Santa Barbara Police.

SBPD officers arrived to find four people in the car and helped both the driver and another passenger to Cottage Hospital for further treatment.

It is unknown if the driver was impaired at the time of the accident and the investigation remains ongoing.

VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) Some people celebrated Flag Day with a protest.

A rally called “Reclaiming Our Flag” took part near the Ventura County Government Center on June 14th.

People made signs, blew bubbles and urged drivers to honk their horns.

“We want folks to know it is everyone’s flag,” said Beth Mansfield of Indivisible Ventura. “This flag represents all of us, so we are here today reclaiming our flag.” 

Organizers also held a food drive to help those in need.

Many of the participants said they show up for peaceful demonstrations every Sunday.

VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) Boots & Brews Country Music Festival filled Plaza Park in Ventura.

Festival-goers brought out their cowboy hats and boots and listened to country music.

Local breweries and artisan vendors were on site.

Attendees had the chance to take a line dancing class.

Some people called it the perfect way to kick off the summer season.

“The vibes are fantastic, the people are wonderful,” said Katie Gordon.

Performers included country artists Gretchen Wilson, Caiden Wallace and headliner Cole Swindell.
