GILROY, California (KSBW) — Gilroy police arrested 20-year-old Curtis Rodriguez for allegedly shooting seven people with a pellet rifle in random attacks late at night and early morning along First Avenue.
Three of the victims were hospitalized for treatment, and investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
Rodriguez allegedly targeted people outside grocery stores, fast food restaurants, and a liquor store. Police patrolling the area late at night spotted Rodriguez outside his car with the pellet rifle in hand.
“He immediately gave up. He, yeah, he saw the officers. He saw the marked patrol vehicle, set down the rifle and gave up, put his hands up in the air. And the officers detained him and eventually took him into custody,” an officer, Jesus Cortez, said.
Investigators searched Rodriguez’s family home and said they found evidence linking him to the shootings.
Rodriguez was booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a no-bail hold. He was arraigned on the charges Wednesday afternoon.
“It goes back to the teaching some of these kids, they don’t have anything to do. You know, they’re just out here. You know, it’s just crazy. It’s just bizarre,” said Gail Spencer, a local resident.
Gilroy police are asking any additional victims to come forward.
