Oklahoma football legend Steve Zabel dies at 78

Oklahoma (KOCO) — Steve Zabel, a former Oklahoma football legend, has died at the age of 78.
Zabel was an All-American in 1969 and a two-time Big 8 champion. He played for the Sooners from 1967 to 1969 as both a tight end and a linebacker, earning All Big-8 honors twice.
Zabel was the sixth pick in the NFL Draft. He would go on to play 10 seasons for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Baltimore Colts.
Zabel was a member of the Patriots’ 1970s All-Decade Team.
He leaves behind his wife, 3 children, several grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
