Police: Officer injured after woman smashes beer bottle on his head

    UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — A large fight and reports of possible gunfire brought Utica Police to the 1500 block of Neilson Street, where two people were arrested after a struggle with officers.

According to UPD, police responded around 8 p.m. on June 21 to break up a fight.

Officers tried to detain one of the main people involved, Osvaldo Colon, 37, of Utica, who resisted arrest before being handcuffed.

While officers were arresting him, Johanna Colon, 44, of Utica, allegedly hit an officer in the head with a glass beer bottle from behind.

Despite a cut and pain, the officer got up and helped take her into custody.

She also resisted arrest before being handcuffed.

The injured officer went to Wynn Hospital for treatment and is not expected to miss work.

Police charged Osvaldo Colon with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Johanna Colon was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
