MILWAUKEE (WDJT) — A corpse flower named Penelope is expected to bloom inside the Tropical Dome at the Mitchell Park Domes sometime around Tuesday, June 23 or Wednesday, June 24, according to the Milwaukee Domes Alliance.

Once the bloom opens, it will last only 24 to 48 hours. The flower releases a strong odor as part of the blooming process, which gives the corpse flower its name.

The Domes say the timing is not exact, and the bloom could happen at any hour. Penelope’s last bloom took place two years ago.

Updates on the flower’s progress are expected to be posted on the Milwaukee Domes Alliance Facebook page.
