GREENVILLE, S.C. (WYFF) — Greenville County Schools are addressing reports of an undetonated construction explosive that was found a Ralph Chandler Middle School.

This comes after reports of a bomb threat at the school, which the district addressed as “incorrect and misleading information.”

Principal Brandon Addy wrote in a statement that construction crews unearthed the device and said it was likely remnant from the excavation of the original construction of the building.

Officials reported no students were on campus when the device was found, and all staff were relocated to Woodmont Middle School.

Law enforcement and fire officials responded to the scene to secure the area and temporarily closed the campus for disposal, and a search will be conducted to confirm no other devices are in the area.

The district emphasized that there is no active threat in the area.
