EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) – The City of El Centro says crews have begun draining the pond at Bucklin Park.
According to the City, the pond is undergoing cleaning and maintenance activities in order to prepare for “the reconstruction of the pond’s existing retaining walls.”
The City says this is part of Phase II of the Veterans Memorial Project, and says, “Construction is expected to continue for several months,” with the pond remaining drained during that time.

In addition, the City says their Parks and Recreation staff will “maintain a section of water at the far west end of the pond for ducks and other animals that depend on the habitat,” and will monitor water levels every week to “ensure adequate conditions are maintained throughout the project.”
The City also says the construction area surrounding the pond will be fenced off throughout the duration of the project.
Reporter Lynette Niebla will have more information later this evening.
