IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) – A family is asking for justice after their loved one was killed in a hit and run in El Centro.

33-year-old Guadalupe Camarillo, who was hit and killed while crossing the street last month, was laid to rest over the weekend.

The suspect took off from the scene and was arrested days later, but was released on $75,000 bail and has yet to face formal charges.

The family says they did not find out about Camarillo’s death until five days after the hit and run because his body was in such bad shape that it took a long time to identify him.

“My brother was so severely injured that they weren’t able to identify him. They had to do fingerprints on him. That’s why it took some time to find out about the incident which was five days later,” said Sarita Camarillo, the victim’s sister.

The family is asking anyone with information to contact the El Centro Police Department.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with expenses. It has a goal of $5,500, with over $3,600 raised so far.
