Central Oregon sees recent surge in residential fires, sparking conversations on prevention

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Several residential fires across Bend and Tumalo this month have left homes heavily damaged or destroyed, displaced families, and sparked renewed concern as Central Oregon heads into wildfire season.

Fire crews from multiple agencies have responded to incidents causing hundreds of thousands — and in one case more than $1 million — in damage.

KTVZ’s Claire Elmer is speaking with Bend Fire & Rescue and the American Red Cross about what’s behind the recent fires, how families are being supported after losing homes, and what residents should do now to protect themselves as temperatures rise and fire danger increases.
