AWC says there will also be an art piece honoring Dr. Daniel Corr’s ten years as the college’s president.

In addition, there will be several murals representing “summative course project that challenged students to incorporate multiple elements from assignments throughout the semester and demonstrate mastery in their own unique style.”

“My plan was to design the murals as a direct reflection of the course objectives,” Isaacs shared. “These artistic pieces serve not only as creative expressions but also as visual evidence of student understanding and the fulfillment of the course.”

Golden Knights family finds comfort in Mammoth hockey community after having a baby in the NICU

SALT LAKE CITY (KSTU) — Brian White and his family are from Idaho but have been long-time Vegas Golden Knights fans. They recently found out they’d be getting a new addition.

“Jenna and I found out this last fall that we were pregnant again,” White said. “We found out that our baby had an ARID1B genetic mutation, which often leads to a Coffin-Siris Syndrome diagnosis.”

It can often target the function of major organs and create severe feeding difficulties.

“We ended up getting to a place where they said they think she’s got brain damage, and she’s not going to have quality of life,” White said.

They were recommended treatment at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake. Baby Kaida was born on March 31 at the University of Utah Hospital and has been in the NICU ever since.

“She was not able to wean off oxygen successfully for quite a while, and so we thought our biggest nightmare, sorry, was happening,” White said while getting choked up. “I just kept telling my wife, like, ‘It’ll work out, right? Like, we’ll figure it out.’ And I just kept telling her, ‘We’re going to let Kaida show us who she is.’”

And Kaida showed everyone who she is: a fighter.

“Through a series of — I don’t know how to say it, other than miracles, she stopped having tremors. We were able to wean off oxygen,” White said. “She’s proving everybody wrong.”

White and his family have been away from home for about a month, spending hours in the NICU and staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

“The Ronald McDonald House knew that we were Vegas fans and knew that it was the playoffs. We actually had never been to a game, and so they were kind enough to get us tickets through a grandparents fund,” White said.

Despite them being in a sea of Mammoth fans, they felt included, which White said speaks to how supportive the hockey community is in Utah.

“I had a lot of people who reached out, and they were like, ‘Listen, hockey family is family. Like, of course, we root for different teams, right? But we’re all family,’” White said. “It took a really trying time, and it just gave us a reprieve that was really needed.”

In a few weeks, they’ll be able to take Kaida home to Idaho.

“The past couple months have been really hard because there is a lot of unknowns, and it’s really hard to wrap your head around the fact that you just, there is no yes or no answer, or maybe even, but it’s really cool,” said big sister Charlie Bradshaw.

However, Utah will always have a special place in their heart.

“The biggest piece of me is at the NICU, and so right now, the Ronald McDonald House feels more like home to me because we’re here with her,” White said.

And if anyone has spare tickets for Monday night’s game, White said you know where to find him.

“If somebody needs a kidney you know I’ll sell one,” White joked. “We would love to go to the game tomorrow. It was such a great experience.”

Neighbors breathe sigh of relief after explosives removed from home

WEST BOUNTIFUL, Utah (KSTU) — For over two hours Monday, the Davis County Bomb Squad removed explosives from a home in a West Bountiful neighborhood, throwing neighbors into a situation they’ve never had to deal with before.

“We’ve had lights flashing all weekend… and we weren’t sure what was going on yet,” said neighbor Lauren Paskett.

“I’ve been here for 15 years, this is a first for me in the city,” added West Bountiful Police Chief Brandon Erekson. “I’ve had other bomb incidents previously, but since my time here, it’s a first.”

On Saturday, while investigating another call, officers found decades-old explosive material, including dynamite, at a home near 1400 North 1100 West, leading to the arrest of 80-year-old Dwayne Hughes.

Over the next few days, police secured the area as the Davis County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad evaluated the explosives. At around 10 a.m. Monday, anyone living within 2,000 feet of the home was evacuated as the disposal process began.

“So I jumped in the car because I’m thinking, ‘What in the heck is going on?’, and I went across the bridge, and I saw about seven cars behind me, and I thought, something is up,” explained West Bountiful resident Joanne Parker.

When neighbors learned the reason behind the evacuation order, they were concerned.

“I talked to some neighbors, and they were a bit worried, and they live just down the street,” said Paskett. “The only thing we were worried about is there are three gas lines running through here. One is directly through our yard.

“If things went sideways, it could’ve been a lot worse.”

Bomb technicians successfully removed all explosives from the home.

Several viewers reached out to FOX 13 News, telling us the property has constantly been an issue in the neighborhood.

West Bountiful City Administrator Duane Huffman shared that the city has had long-standing issues with the property owners, even filing lawsuits against Hughes, although there haven’t been recent complaints.

Others said they’ve had nothing but kind interactions with Hughes and those who live at the house.

“We’ve never had any problems. He’s a friendly, friendly guy,” Paskett said of Hughes.

Neighbors were able to get back into their homes Monday afternoon, but the shock of the situation will stay with some of them.

“We just never know,” Parker said, “we just don’t know.”

Santa Barbara County Jail Ceremony Highlights One-of-a-Kind Second Chance Program

Patricia Martellotti

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is highlighting efforts inside the county jail aimed at helping inmates build a path forward through education and support.

The Sheriff’s Treatment Program includes two key initiatives: Santa Barbara City College’s Rising Scholars program and Criminals and Gang Members Anonymous (CGA). While not formally labeled a “second chance” program, both are designed to provide opportunities for personal growth and rehabilitation.

Rising Scholars offers access to college-level education, allowing participants to begin or continue their studies while incarcerated. CGA, offered within the jail, provides peer-based support focused on accountability, behavioral change, and recovery.

Officials report the programs are intended to reduce recidivism and better prepare individuals for reentry into the community by equipping them with tools for long-term success.

Together, the initiatives reflect a broader focus on rehabilitation—demonstrating how education and structured support can play a role in breaking cycles of incarceration. The Santa Barbara County Jail is hosting a ceremony honoring people rebuilding after incarceration.

Leaders recognized graduates from college courses and a unique recovery group this week.

The event underscores the urgent push for second chances through education.

New Signal Light Installed to Manage Hwy 101 Construction Traffic

John Palminteri

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – A new temporary signal light is now working on Coast Village Road in Santa Barbara where the northbound freeway traffic exits at Hermosillo.

This is part of the traffic management plan for the Highway 101 improvement project in the area.

Recently, the northbound exit nearby at Cabrillo Blvd. was closed, and traffic is now exiting the freeway at Hermosillo which is a shorter off ramp. Cabrillo was a main exit for those heading to the beach.

Hermosillo comes out at Coast Village Road west of Butterfly Lane and Coast Village Circle.

Additions include a new crosswalk there.

The Coast Village Association says it was not aware of the light installation recently and sought information for its members, who are property owners and businesses.

There have been many meetings and community outreach sessions prior to this phase of the project by SBRoads and the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments.

The signal was first in place and on blinking red last week before it was switched to the normal sequence. A pedestrian crosswalk button is also expected to be added. Debbie Corazza drivers through the area regularly. “In the morning during the Farmers Market time (Friday morning) it was backed up quite a bit yeah. I would say it was backed up to the roundabout and the roundabout was slowed down as well.”

There were traffic concerns and congestion issues reported last Friday afternoon and Saturday in that area. Betsy Siegel came out of a store nearby and said, “It’s bad you don’t know what street to go down or how to go anywhere. it takes a really long time.”

A shopper in the area who remembers the freeway flow from the 80’s and beyond said, “and it is not clear this will improve this at all you would think they have better things to spend their money on.” Durwood Zaekle said, “there was no freeway you drove through and there were stoplights, all the way and better a way so it’s faster now but a lot of the charm is gone.”

With regards to the signal light one pedestrian, Sandy Oshinsky said, “I think they do need to tweek it and take it out when all this construction is done. I watch the numbers go down. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and I raced to go through it and then I got stuck at it.”

New community center opens in northeast Columbia

Marie Moyer

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A local nonprofit is looking to transform Columbia’s Third Ward and the “Clark Lane Corridor” with the Beacon of Light Community Center.

United Community Builders announced the grand opening of the building on Tuesday morning during a ribbon-cutting.

“When I came here in 1998, this was the premier area for college students and for single-family homes to be here,” said Damian Dean, who is the executive director of Unite Community Builders. “This location of our facility is in a resource desert, and we’re trying to recapture the glory of what it was, but also build for the future generations.”

The 22,500-square-foot center is located at the corner of Sylvan Lane and Towne Drive and features a gymnasium with an indoor basketball court, conference room, industrial kitchen, outdoor playground and several offices and classrooms for UCB Academy Students and staff.

Groups will be able to rent out spaces and a plan for UCB-hosted events. UCB also currently runs a “Transformation” program that helps low-income and minority adults with career education. This includes classes on resume building, career planning and workplace training.

“We will have some open gym to some extent, but everything is going to be geared towards being strategic and intentional,” Dean said. “We’re helping young people and families get the things that they need.”

According to UCB, the two schools in the area, Blue Ridge Elementary and Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary, rank in the bottom 50% of all Missouri schools, with a large majority of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch.

Donors, ARPA funds and state and county governments helped fund the project. According to prior reporting, UCB raised at least $7.9 million for the center. Boone County and City of Columbia Documents report both governments gave the project $750,000 in ARPA funds.

UCB later confirmed with ABC 17 News that the project cost around $8 million to complete.

According to City of Columbia documents, the total costs for HVAC and elevator construction came to around $3.87 million.

“This is huge, people can see and dream and think about raising our community enrichment with property value,” D’Markus Thomas-Brown, City of Columbia’s administrator of the Office of Violence Prevention said.

“It was it was a blessing for us at the local level that the Congress, federal government and trusted local leaders to make decisions like the one” Boone County Commissioner Kip Kendrick said. “It’s a big lift for local governments but it also, local governments, I think, are sometimes well positioned to know what projects have been discussed for years, what projects are probably ready to move forward and have momentum behind them and this is this is a wonderful example.

Northeast Columbia residents John and Elvira Maxwell called the center a ‘miracle.’

“Many of our young people have gone astray, no guidance in their home, no male figure and they hit the streets. So United Community is doing an awesome job,” Elvira Maxwell said. “When we work together, we see what can happen.”

Power being restored in Camden County after hail storm rolls through

Ryan Shiner

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

More than 1,100 electricity customers in Camden County were without power after a storm with hail went through the Lake of the Ozarks area on Tuesday afternoon.

The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives’ map shows 1,056 Co-Mo Electric Cooperative customers without power and another 89 Laclede Electric customers had no electricity. Most of the residents without power appeared to be near Sunrise Beach, according to Co-Mo Electric’s outage map.

Co-Mo Electric spokesman Patrick Wood told ABC 17 News in an email that customers in Morgan County were also without power and that crews have been dispatched to fix the outage. That outage appeared to be resolved around 2:40 p.m.

This comes after multiple days of storms. Up in Randolph County, there’s still nearly 800 electric customers without power, with 251 being Ameren customers and 539 coming from Howard Electric Cooperative.

The City of Glasgow in Howard County lost power on Monday and had told its residents on social media that power could be restored as soon as Wednesday or Thursday.
