New Medal of Honor Boulevard linking west Pueblo, Pueblo West to open on Friday

Scott Harrison

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) — A highly-anticipated project that took nearly two years to complete and cost almost $40 million, officially ends on Friday when officials hold a grand opening for the new Medal of Honor Boulevard.

The 3.3-mile, four-lane road will provide the area with its first direct route between the Pueblo Boulevard/24th Street intersection on Pueblo’s west side, and the intersection of Joe Martinez and Purcell boulevards in Pueblo West.

Workers built the road through the Honor Farm Open Space, and is part of a larger project to build a new Pueblo County Jail at the east end of the road.

Officials announced late last Friday afternoon that the road will open to traffic after an 11:30 a.m. ceremony this Friday morning, beside the jail at the intersection of Medal of Honor Boulevard and Dockum Road.

The opening of the new road — which essentially is an extension of Joe Martinez Boulevard — may ease traffic congestion on US 50 to the north, which has long been the only direct connection between Pueblo and Pueblo West.

In an effort to improve travel through Pueblo’s west side, officials also want to eventually build a bridge that would cross a mesa and railroad tracks on 24th street; those geographical barriers currently separate much of the west side from the rest of the city.

KRDO 13’s The Road Warrior first reported on the idea in January, and officials say that a bridge would create a direct connection between Interstate 25 ad Pueblo West.

“We were just talking about how much we need that,” said west Pueblo residents Patricia Rush and her daughter, Amanda Bull, while driving through the area. “The new road is great, but a bridge on 24th Street would be even better.

Some drivers said that they’d like to see Medal of Honor Boulevard’s wide configuration on the three miles of Joe Martinez Boulevard, west to where it ends at McCulloch Boulevard.

Officials also plan to spend $12 million over the next four years to make a variety of traffic, parking and pedestrian upgrades near the new road and elsewhere in the area.

“Oh, I’m definitely looking forward to the new road,” said Kevin Subia, of Pueblo West. “It’s gonna save us a lot of commute time, a lot of gas. We go back into Pueblo all the time, so it’s definitely gonna be a big convenience. Hopefully, we’ll also get some businesses along the roadside.”

Funding for the new road came from a voter-approved ballot measure in 2016 that allowed Pueblo to keep $66 million in surplus tax revenue.

Bright and warm Monday, tracking a cooling trend

Andie Lopez Bornet

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Onshore flow and low level clouds along with patchy fog near the coast return Monday. Temperatures are expected to cool 3-6 degrees for the coasts and valleys and close to 10 degrees for the beaches.

Although patchy clouds return Monday, temperatures will still be on the warmer side for the next couple of days and will be in the 70s and 80s Monday.

Monday and Tuesday will feel slightly cooler from the weekend, but Wednesday will be the warmest day of the work week, before a rapid cooling trend on Thursday.

Monday evening wind speeds will pick up through Wednesday with the chance of wind advisories being issued, however there are no weather alerts currently.

By Thursday, the big cooling trend begins, with some micro climates seeing a 10 degree drop from Wednesdays heat. Rain is in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. Right now chances are looking to be 40-80% depending on micro climates. It’s not a big system and may result in breaking apart before reaching the Central Coast. I do feel the region will experience at least drizzle and sprinkles, but as of now, models are not showing a big impact. Regardless, the cooling trend is expected to stay put through much of next.

Ugly Easter lamb cake posted by bakery as April Fools’ joke turns into viral sensation

By Eric Henderson

WESTLAND, Michigan (WWJ) — What started out as an attempted April Fools’ Day joke by a Detroit-area bakery ended up backfiring, in a sense, when customers enthusiastically embraced the design of an intentionally ugly “Easter lamb” cake.

Last week, Homestead Kitchen Artisan Cakery’s Instagram account posted a photo of a disturbed-appearing lamb confection in the “cake fail” style of the TV show “Nailed It!”

The cake depicted in the photo featured googly eyes, misshapen buck teeth, nondescript grey frosting piled haphazardly and appearing to be melting, and a light dusting of coconut shavings to suggest wool.

“Where’s the knife, I need to put it out of its misery,” one commenter mused.

The post received nearly 4,000 comments on Instagram. The success of the post spurred the bakery to offer replicas of the ugly lamb depicted in the post, though they quickly sold out due to the unexpected demand.

The bakery reported, “What started as an April Fool’s joke, turned into an international sensation, with over 4 million views, a sell-out weekend, and endless laughs.”

The bakery — which also offered a more traditional lamb cake option — said the success of the April Fools’ stunt has inspired them to offer the ugly lamb next Easter, as well.

While many commenters indicated they were in on the joke, a few took issue with the satirical take resulting from the convergence of April Fools’ and Easter Sunday. In the Christian faith, the lamb is symbolic of innocence and the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for his followers.

“While the lamb CAKE is a longstanding Easter tradition here in the States and is not a biblical representation of Jesus Christ, I can see why some might confuse this cake post with an attack on Christianity,” the bakery posted the day after the prank. “As a Bible believing follower of Christ, I pray that my whimsy does not stand in your way of experiencing the life changing power of the cross this week.”

A ER nurse is teaching kids about health and wellness through “Mini Med School” YouTube channel

By Emily McLeod

ATLANTA (WUPA) — An Emergency Room Nurse with Emory University Hospital is making an impact with her YouTube Channel, “Mini Med School with Nurse Dolly.”

Emari Etta-Tawo is using her experience as an ER nurse and mom of two to educate kids about health and wellness.

After having her two children, she saw a need for kid-friendly health and wellness content on platforms like YouTube.

“I noticed there was a lot of things about alphabets, about colors, about shapes, which are all important but there wasn’t anything that promotes health and wellness for children, which I believed was very, very, very important, so I created Mini Med School with Nurse Dolly,” Etta-Tawo said.

Etta-Tawo said “Mini Med School” has changed her perspective on nursing.

“I feel like now I’m able to make more of an impact beyond the bedside and hospital and reach more people,” Etta-Tawo said. “Thousands of kids have watched my channel, and I’m just so grateful for that.”

She started “Mini Med School” in July 2025 and already has nearly 23,000 subscribers.

“So, I always thought that was a great idea, but I didn’t expect for it to be this big so soon,” Etta-Tawo said. “I started in July of 2025. It’s been about eight months, and it’s been growing very rapidly. I’m so grateful for the growth.”

Etta-Tawo covers a variety of topics on her channel, including handwashing, exercise, and the five food groups.

Right now, Etta-Tawo said she’s working on a series called “My Body is Amazing.”

“That’s kind of what I’m focusing on right now, is teaching kids all about their body, how amazing it is and all the things that it can do,” Etta-Tawo said. “I do take recommendations from people that were my early watchers. They have left some recommendations like, ‘Hey, you know, we would love to see a video about the heart. We would love to see a video about brushing teeth or hand hygiene.’ So, I’ve kind of been listening to what the parents want and kind of giving them that, that content.”

She said the feedback to her channel has been overwhelming: “I’ve been getting messages from parents saying, you know, ‘We had a doctor’s visit today and after watching ‘Mini Med School,’ they did so much better than they did the last time.’ And that type of feedback really keeps me going as well.”

Etta-Tawo said she is grateful when parents let her know they trust her and the content is resonating with their children.

Get free assistance on last-minute tax refund filing

Nicole Ardila

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The deadline to submit your income tax returns is approaching, and there are many changes this year that you need to know about before filing them.

Because of the One Big Beautiful Bill, the biggest change is that the IRS is now requiring taxpayers to have a direct deposit account in order to receive the tax refund, so it is faster.

Also, taxpayers can receive a portion of a refund for any car you purchased that was made in the U.S.

You can even be receiving up to 10% more this year on your tax returns.

If no action is taken by the April 15 deadline, or no direct deposit information is added, you can receive a CP53E notice, which means your refund is on hold.

GECU uses the VITA Program to help get your taxes done for free, for anyone who makes less than $85,000 a year.

Here’s what you need to take:

An original social security card

A valid ID

Your W-2 or 1099 form

If you have health insurance, bring your 1095-A form

Bring your last pay stub to check your overtime pay

If you’re married, your spouse must be present

If you have dependents, you must bring their social security cards

It can feel overwhelming, but GECU has some reassurance for you if you’re looking for assistance.

“The benefit of our program is that we were trained by the IRS, so we’ve been doing this for over 10 years in the community,” says Linda Nuñez, GECU assistant VP of community development. “So our volunteers are experts, and the awesome thing about our program is that someone always, once they prepare it, we do have a certified quality reviewer that will review the return to ensure that it is accurate.”

They recommend you go sooner than later, because they do get busier.

Boone County Democrats to hold ‘Empty Chair’ town hall

Jazsmin Halliburton

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The town hall will run from 6-8 p.m. in the Columbia Senior Activity Center on East Business Loop 70.

Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions, demand answers and share their stories regarding concerns with the current state of health care in the U.S., including access, cost and coverage. Residents will also be able to speak on other pressing issues directly to the empty chairs symbolizing the representatives.

A press release for the event states, “while the chairs reserved for elected officials remain empty, the voices of Boone County residents will not be.” Additionally, local democratic party leadership is expected to speak.

Anyone who wishes to speak at Monday’s “Empty Chair” town hall is asked to email the Boone County Democrats in advance at Boonecountydemocrats@gmail.com to be added to the agenda.

Charitable donations fund pizza delivery driver’s retirement after good deed goes viral

By Barclay Idsal

BOISE, Idaho (KIVI) — Talk about rolling out the retirement red carpet!

A hardworking Domino’s pizza delivery driver on the cusp of retiring will soon become the beneficiary of a GoFundMe that’s raised over $75,000 in donations. The stunning fundraising effort comes after the driver went the extra mile to fulfill a delivery as ordered.

It all happened on a recent Friday night when a Treasure Valley customer ordered dinner and a Diet Coke from a nearby Domino’s. After placing the order, the delivery driver, Dan, notified the customer that their Domino’s location was out of Diet Coke. Dan let the customer know about the inconvenience and offered to get them something else.

The customer tried calling the store back, but by that time, Dan had already left. At that point, the customer figured they’d take “whatever substitution came with the order.”

However, when Dan arrived, he had pizza and a Diet Coke in tow.

Turns out, Dan took it upon himself to stop at a store along the way and fulfill the drink request— on a busy Friday evening, no less.

“We were honestly blown away. That level of care and kindness is rare these days,” reported the customer on the GoFundMe page. “We wanted to tip him more, but didn’t have cash on hand. We told him we’d call the store to leave a glowing review and come back with a cash tip.”

During their conversation, Dan revealed that he was just a few weeks away from retirement after delivering for Domino’s for nearly 14 years.

After the customer’s TikTok post about the delivery went viral, TikTok suggested putting together a GoFundMe to help boost Dan’s retirement savings.

“Let’s help him step into retirement feeling appreciated, supported, and celebrated,” concludes the GoFundMe page.

The GoFundMe is scheduled to remain active until April 30, which is Dan’s final day of work.

The bobblehead nun? Beloved Neumann University sister inspires unique fundraiser

By Wakisha Bailey

DELAWARE COUNTY, Pennsylvania (KYW) — At Neumann University in Delaware County, two beloved Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia are turning faith, friendship and a little creativity into real support for students.

Sister Linda DeCero, a proud South Philadelphia native, is full of energy and Philly sports pride. Many first met her during the Phillies’ 2022 World Series run, when she showed us her decorated altar.

Right by her side is Sister Marguerite O’Beirne, originally from Ireland, who admits she’s not much of a sports fan.

“I’m really not a sports fan,” O’Beirne said. “I’m a Knights fan,” referring to Neumann’s teams.

While students cheer from the stands, Sister Marguerite is often found doing something else: praying. And that quiet presence has made a powerful impact.

That impact sparked an unexpected idea: a bobblehead.

Created in Sister Marguerite’s likeness, it is now being sold to raise money for Neumann Athletics, inspired by the viral success of Sister Jean’s bobblehead at Loyola University Chicago.

Each one includes details that reflect her daily life, from her cross to her teacup. They’re $60 in honor of Neumann’s 60th anniversary, Deputy Athletic Director Gina McLaughlin said.

Demand has been strong.

For students, Sister Marguerite’s presence goes far beyond a symbol.

“She always motivates us, tells us we’re going to be good,” student-athlete Donte Dupriest said. “Just pray, you’ll be OK.”

Others say she’s helped them stay eligible to play, even improving their grades.

The bobblehead may be the headline, but the real story is the connection.

Before the bobbleheads, there was a friendship.

Sisters Linda and Marguerite have lived and worked together since 1986. They first met at a high school in Trenton, New Jersey.

Despite different personalities and backgrounds, their shared mission has never changed: supporting students, especially student-athletes.

“They’re extending a legacy of the sisters,” Sister Linda said.

Their influence stretches far beyond Neumann, from ice rinks and baseball fields to international trips with students.

And yes, even a connection to Phillies legend Tug McGraw, whom they once babysat for.

As for the bobblehead?

Sister Marguerite is still humble about it.

“If it raises money for the student-athletes and helps them to get the equipment and the resources that they need, I’ll do it,” she said.

Neumann Athletics says a student discount for the bobbleheads is coming soon after overwhelming interest.

NEW YORK (WCBS) — A woman on a Caribbean Airlines flight to New York City went into labor as the plane was about to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Saturday.

Caribbean Airlines confirmed the passenger gave birth on Flight BW005, which took off from Kingston, Jamaica.

The following is air traffic control audio with the pilots aboard the flight:

Pilot: “We have a passenger, a pregnant passenger, who’s going into labor at this time. Requesting direct detail.”

Controller: “Caribbean 5, roger that. And Caribbean 5, would you like the medical personnel at your gate?”

Pilot: “Yes sir, thank you.”

Ground control: “Caribbean 5, ground?”

Pilot: “Yes sir, go ahead.”

Ground control: “Is it out yet?’

Pilot: “Yes sir.”

Ground control: “All right, tell her she’s got to name it Kennedy.”

Pilot (laughing): “Ah, Kennedy, will do.”

The airline said the mom and newborn were attended to by medical personnel once they arrived at JFK.

“The airline commends the professionalism and measured response of its crew, who managed the situation in accordance with established procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of all onboard,” Caribbean Airlines said, in part, in a statement.

There was no word on if the mother did name the baby Kennedy.

Company develops robot to take guesswork out of dental surgery

By Steve Maugeri

MIAMI (WFOR) — Robots are helping with dental surgeries in some South Florida dental offices, and a company based in Miami created a new robotic dental assistant that’s taking much of the guesswork out of those dental implants.

Jorge Curebelo was expecting to get two dental implants, but he didn’t know that robots would be doing the heavy lifting.

“It’s the newest technology,” he said in an interview translated from Spanish to English. “I’m excited about that.”

“What’s she’s doing right now is she’s putting on this link to attach the patient to the robot, so the robot knows where the patient is,” Dr. Reinol Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez’s office is using Yomi, which is more than a steady hand.

It’s a robot that can map out a treatment plan in minutes with some basic X-rays. The company behind it is Neocis, and it’s based in Miami.

The company says Yomi robots are the only of its kind to have FDA approval.

Gonzalez says it’s more precise and takes less time to do implants this way.

“The healing time is a lot less and really there’s no pain involved,” Gonzalez said. “I don’t have to open him up and cut the gums the way I would normally do.”

He uploads the X-rays in Yomi, and it helps him line up where the implants will go.

“I’m gonna move this X-ray over here,” Gonzalez said.

So when the patient is numb and it’s time to bore a hole, the machine knows where to go. And it knows how deep to drill.

Like any good assistant, it’s ready when it hears its name.

“The depth that I planned,” Gonzalez said. “It doesn’t let me go any further. It stops me right there.”

Curebelo got a little nervous once he saw the robot with a drill. But he said that fear went away quickly.

“I was a bit nervous because it’s my first experience,” he said. “I felt nothing I felt great. The doctor’s hands were really good and the equipment for the job was wonderful.”

Gonzalez said this Yomi robot is just for implants for now, but he said it could be used for other services like crowns and fillings in the future.

Right now, Neocis said 25 doctors in Florida use the Yomi robot and 16 of them are here in South Florida.
