MILWAUKEE (WISN) — Milwaukee police are right now investigating a home invasion that happened at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday near 50th and Burleigh streets, right across the street from St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Police said an intruder entered the home, sexually assaulted one of the homeowners and stole property. They are still trying to track down the person responsible.

One of the victims, an 81-year-old man, told 12 News Wednesday that the intruder, a stranger, was inside the home he shares with his longtime girlfriend for roughly 15 minutes.

The victim understandably did not want to be identified and did not want to disclose much information, as he said he and his partner are working closely with investigators to try and track down the intruder still on the run.

But he did give some insight into the home invasion. He said it was so dark at the time and the intruder was camouflaged, making it “difficult for anyone to identify anything.

When asked how they’re holding up, he responded, “We’re surviving.”

The victim is trying to find the positive, saying he’s grateful for the support of his tight-knit neighborhood.

“We kind of do what we do to protect each other over here,” his neighbor Dianne Parker said.

The victim told 12 News that DNA evidence will be crucial in this case.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7401 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or the P3 Tips app.
