Bend Park Board to review North Shevlin Park Plan amid growth, environmental concerns

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Bend Park & Recreation District leaders are taking a closer look at growing impacts on the north side of Shevlin Park, as increased use brings new challenges.
District staff are expected to brief the board Tuesday evening on a refined trail plan aimed at managing unauthorized trails, informal parking, and environmental damage in the area. While the south side of Shevlin Park has long been the most popular, nearby growth—including neighborhoods like Skyline Ranch—is drawing more visitors to the north side.
That increase in use has led to user-created trails and roadside parking along Shevlin Park Road, contributing to erosion and habitat concerns. The district is now working to determine which trails could be formalized, where access points should be built, and how to restore impacted areas.
Tuesday’s meeting is a work session, meaning no formal vote is expected. Instead, board members will provide feedback to help guide next steps before any construction or changes are implemented.
