ANAHEIM, California (KABC) — A man is behind bars after police say he attacked a mother and her teenage daughter in public in Anaheim, threatening to sexually assault them.

Jose Gudino, 59, has been charged with two felony counts of kidnapping with intent to commit rape, according to the Anaheim Police Department. The agency says he was homeless and has no prior history of violent attacks.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon near Lincoln Avenue and East Street, according to police.

A mother and daughter, who asked to remain anonymous, were walking home from a bus stop. They said they began to notice that a man was following them.

Surveillance camera footage eerily shows the man emerging as the women cross the street and he follows behind them. Moments later, police say he attacked them.

“We were screaming for help,” said the 14-year-old daughter. “I felt like that was going to be my last day here and I was just so traumatized.”

The mother and daughter said Gudino tried grabbing them from the sidewalk, first going after the teenage girl. He demanded they go with him to an area behind nearby trees where he threatened to assault them.

“A bag of my pills fell. When I tried to pick it up, he hit me with a bag in his hand and I fell on the street,” the mother said.

The mother was hurt, but she and her daughter fought back – even managing to record video of the suspect.

“She was very brave, she also protected me, the two of us united, thanks to the mercy of God,” the mother said.

A good Samaritan stopped and they jumped into her car. They consider her to be their angel.

When they got home, they called 911 and police say within two hours, they found Gudino and arrested him.

“It’s an isolated incident. It doesn’t happen often in the city of Anaheim. And that’s exactly why we made it a priority to immediately apprehend this suspect,” said Officer Breana Castro, a public information officer with Anaheim PD.

Anaheim police say they want to speak with that good Samaritan.

“We are also very thankful for her input in helping this mother daughter duo. And we would love to get her statement. It would be critical in the case against this suspect,” Castro said.

The family is working on recovering, both physically and emotionally. The mother has scratches across her legs and hands. They hope their story serves as a warning to other women in their community.

LOS ANGELES, California (KABC) — Ye, formally known as Kanye West, is set to appear in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Friday. He’s being sued by a man who worked on his Malibu beach house renovations.

Ye’s wife, Bianca Censori, took the stand Thursday, with her testimony lasting all day.

The case revolves around Tony Saxon, a former employee who sued Ye, claiming he was hired as a project manager but was only paid once. He said that he was fired after seven weeks.

Saxon is suing for more than $1 million for alleged unpaid wages, dangerous working conditions and wrongful termination.

During questioning, Censori said she has degrees in architecture and in 2021 she was lead architect for Ye’s $57 million house. She added that she worked on it for a few weeks before Saxon came on board.

She was asked about the plans for the house and the changes. She said her role was to visualize plans, renderings and concepts that Ye had.

Saxon claimed that Ye’s plans for the property were constantly changing. He said Ye wanted all plumbing, wiring and other items removed.

Saxon claims he was severely injured and was later fired.

Ye is set to testify in court Friday.

Good Vibes Only: SISD student earns associate degree, marks district milestone

Rosemary Garcia

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)—Socorro Early College Senior Ruben Escajeda is enjoying the last few months of his high school senior year.

The student at Socorro Early College (SEC) High School already received his associate degree in multidisciplinary studies from El Paso Community College in December 2025.

But his achievement also marks a big milestone for the Socorro Independent School District. He is the 3,000th SISD student to earn an associate degree through the district’s partnership with EPCC.

Despite being enrolled in college courses, Ruben has also been heavily involved in other school activities. He played left tackle for the Socorro Bulldogs. He’s also a member of the National Honor Society and participates in SEC’s Espirit De Corps leadership program. Through the STEP-UP program, he also mentors freshmen as they adjust to the challenges of early-college coursework.

Additionally, Ruben continues to rank in the top 5 percent of his class and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. He admits, it’s been a juggling act.

“I think there’s a lot of things I had to sacrifice time for. I had spent some time in sports, instead of time where I can just be to myself. I had to spend some time in the classroom instead of having time to myself. So I think it was a lot of time management and a lot of saying, ‘Okay. I need to focus here more instead of here more,’ he told ABC-7.

The college director and assistant principal of Socorro High, Erica O. Monarrez, said Ruben is a standout student.

“We’re very proud that our students here at Socorro High School are recognized for their hard work. Ruben’s a great model student that we have here at Socorro High School,” she said.

Inspired by his mother, an elementary school nurse, Ruben hopes to enter the medical field. Ruben is interested in becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

Ruben is thankful he was able to take part in the early college program, which he said has helped him save time and money.

“I think it’s allowed me to get a head start at the things that I want to pursue in life. And I think it’s just a great way to start my career and start the things that I want to pursue as I grow older.”

Ruben will be graduating from Socorro High this June. He is planning to continue his studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Congratulations to Ruben on all of his achievements!

The School Buzz: USA Basketball coaches score big with students at Widefield D-3

Josh Helmuth

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — Some students in Widefield D-3 got a basketball lesson this week from the organization behind Team USA.

Students at Webster Elementary got a visit from USA Basketball coaches for an in-school clinic: warmups, drills, dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork — the whole bit. The clinic was meant to help keep kids moving, have fun and maybe fall in love with the sport.

“We go to schools, rec centers, community centers, and just try to bring the sport of basketball to some new audiences and really prioritize fun,” said Andrea Travelstead with USA Basketball.

Before the day was over, every student walked away with a USA Basketball shirt as well.

Paso del Norte Health Foundation Offers Funding Opportunities for Mental Health Programs

Hillary Floren

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – It’s exciting news for programs that support mental health and emotional well-being across the borderland. The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PdNHR) is accepting letters of intent. Organizations can outline their ideas for evidence-based programs for funding consideration. Applications are open now through April 7th.

The PdNHF is looking for organizations whose programs align with one or more of the following priorities:

Behavioral Health Consortium – Supports programs that address gaps in mental health and substance use systems, with an emphasis on strengthening coordination among regional behavioral health consortium stakeholders as informed by data.

Think.Change Initiative – Advances efforts to reduce stigma and negative bias associated with mental health conditions and substance use.

“By investing in evidence-based programs and strong partnerships, we can help close gaps in mental health care, reduce stigma, and ensure individuals and families receive the support they need to thrive,” said Sandra Day, PdNHF Program Officer.

The Foundation will only consider programs that are not currently supported by other funding sources, including government funding or health coverage reimbursement.

Organizations interested in applying can visit the Paso del Norte Health Foundation website.

Drainage project prior to street repaving in north Colorado Springs reaches midway point; traffic impacts begin

Scott Harrison

COLORADO SPRINGS/EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — A stormwater project that started around Thanksgiving is about to cross busy North Gate Boulevard, marking the halfway point in a $5 million project that will lead to much-needed repaving work.

The county’s public works department is building a retention basin on the south side of the boulevard, between the northbound and southbound Interstate 25 overpasses.

Crews are also installing 3,000 feet of concrete pipes; construction is now in front of the Mining Museum and is ready to move north across North Gate, eventually advancing uphill to a new roundabout on Struthers Road.

The area is near the line between city and county jurisdictions and within the jurisdictions of the Air Force Academy and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All four entities are partners in the project.

Because of the construction, traffic is down to one lane in each direction on the approaches to the crossover point, and eastbound North Gate is closed there — requiring traffic in both directions to share the westbound lanes.

Those traffic impacts began on Wednesday and will continue through the project’s expected completion in May.

“The dry weather we’ve had has really helped us make great progress,” said John Lantz, a senior engineer with the county. “Even the rain we had earlier in the week hasn’t been an issue. If it snows on Friday, we’ll work through it.”

After the county finishes the project, the city plans to repave the area as part of its annual 2C expanded paving program.

As KRDO 13’s The Road Warrior reported in the summer of 2024, neighbors and drivers have been frustrated by how long the work has taken, and how the condition of Struthers in particular has deteriorated.

Residents said that paving was supposed to happen five years ago, but couldn’t proceed until all involved parties could agree on the stormwater project.

Last year, the city repaved eastbound North Gate in front of the museum and filled numerous potholes around the North Gate/Struthers intersection, but many of those patches popped out over the winter.

In fact, The Road Warrior crew heard three vehicles blow their tires during a Friday morning live report — possibly while hitting one of several sizeable potholes on westbound North Gate.

By 8 a.m., approximately a dozen drivers reported pothole damage — likely from the same large pothole.

A worker arrived on scene to fill the pothole, but there appeared to be several other potholes growing in size and posing a threat to drivers.

Two charged for hazmat explosion at waste facility

By Daniel Macht

MODESTO, California (KCRA) — Two men are facing charges after an investigation into chemical explosions and fires at a waste management facility in Modesto last year.

In announcing the charges, the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office also released dramatic video that showed the moment 55-gallon drums alleged to be filled with hazardous waste exploded on March 27.

It happened when waste from Riverbank-based Advanced Materials Manufacturing Technologies, LLC, (AM2T) was being offloaded at Gilton’s Resource Recovery Facility in Modesto.

One Gilton worker suffered minor injuries in the initial explosion.

According to the DA’s office, Gilton employees did not know the drums were filled with hazardous material, highly flammable powdered magnesium and aluminum.

Later, firefighters who tried to put out the fire also put themselves in danger because the hazardous materials reacted with water to produce flammable hydrogen gas, which then led to a secondary explosion, the DA’s office said.

No one was hurt in the second explosion and the fire was ultimately put out after being covered with dirt, the DA’s office said.

Investigators also found additional 55-gallon drums filled with hazardous waste that were being illegally stored at AM2T’s facility, according to the DA’s office.

AM2T owner Henry Meeks and AM2T manager Phillip Whitmore are accused of illegal storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste.

Whitmore was arrested and booked into jail in connection with the alleged illegal dumping. An arrest warrant has been issued for Meeks.

School district considers random drug tests for student athletes

By TJ Dysart

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin (WISN) — The Waukesha School District is considering a proposal to randomly drug test student athletes, following concerns raised by the board clerk about marijuana’s impact on students’ mental health.

The proposal, discussed at a committee meeting on Tuesday night, aims to identify students using cannabis and provide them with necessary help.

“I am not interested in punishing students who use, I am interested in identifying them.” Board Clerk David Wadd said.

He emphasized the importance of addressing cannabis use among adolescents.

“As cannabis use is legalized and the message continues to be ‘Well, this is harmless,’ the fact of the matter is, at least for adolescents, it is definitely not harmless,” Wadd said.

Marijuana usage is not legal in Wisconsin. Under the Waukesha School District’s proposal, student athletes who test positive for marijuana could be benched. However, some board members are advocating for a policy that extends beyond random testing.

Board Member Karrie Kozlowski expressed concerns about enforcement, saying, “Candidly, we have coaches today who know that their players are using it and don’t darn thing about it.” Kozlowski suggested that students should sign a consent form agreeing to the drug tests voluntarily.

Kozlowski also raised questions about the logistics of the proposal.

“Where are these random drug tests done? Do we require parental authorization to drug test children?” Kozlowski said.

Other school districts, including Arrowhead, Mukwonago, and Pewaukee, have already implemented similar random drug testing policies. Oak Creek’s policy applies to both student athletes and students who park on school grounds.
