Inside Emergence Health Network’s new mobile crisis units

Nicole Ardila

Emergence Health Network launched their new mobile crisis units this month, which is like a clinic on wheels — something they say is the first of its kind in El Paso.

EHN launched three mobile crisis units — two for adults and one for kids.

The main difference is a play station and some toys for kids to decompress and calm down and then proceed with treatment like a tele-health session.

“This is something that really allows us to kind of be there and support them right then and there in this situation, as opposed to adding more stressful tasks, to get them to our crisis clinic,” said Fabian Marquez, who’s part of their Youth Crisis Outreach Team. “We want to be able to support them, we want to be able to do whatever is needed to really help them, to really diminish and stabilize that crisis.”

It’s a modern concept aiming to support families and clients by giving them more access to help if they can’t make it to their Crisis and Emergency Clinic.

The unit is built with complete privacy — including surveillance cameras with a 360 view so the client feels safe.

When it arrives to a person’s home or nearby area, they can do a tele-health session to meet with a therapist.

“It’s not in El Paso thing, right? It’s something that’s kind of statewide and nationwide,” said Marquez. “So, I think that the benefit of this is just the fact that it’s so new. It’s innovative. It’s something that’s going to hopefully make it a little bit more efficient and to make our services that much better.”

This crisis unit is triggered through their hotline or 988, and the service is free of charge.

Watch: Officials speak about dissolving CRRUA

Olivia Vara

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The City of Sunland Park held a press conference earlier today.

This event served as a discussion on the termination of the Joint Powers Agreement that established the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA).

At today’s meeting, Sunland Park requested that city council allocate $1.2 million from city funds to continue supporting the community’s water and wastewater services.

The ask follows Doña Ana County’s and Sunland Park’s separation from CRRUA after the county terminated the contract with the city.

Mayor Javier Perea and City Manager Mario Juarez-Infante led today’s meeting which aimed to clarify Sunland Park’s position.

The city said the ask of $1.2 million would be set aside to clean and restore the 3 sediment tanks in Sunland Park that have not been cleaned in years and have led to these water quality issues.

The city said that over 80% of CRRUA service customers are residents of Sunland Park.

This meeting followed Doña Ana County’s decision to begin dissolution from CRRUA.

The Board of County Commissioners had stated last Tuesday that CRRUA will continue managing operations during the transition period.

As of today, Doña Ana county and Sunland Park have launched a phone line and online form for CRRUA customers to report water issues.

Maquiladoras continue to lose jobs south of the border

Heriberto Perez

JUÁREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) — Industries and maquiladoras south of the border continue to lose jobs month after month.

According to the Mexican Importers and Exporters National Association (ANIERM), Juárez lost another 1,874 jobs in March of this year.

Closing reports indicate that these 1,874 losses bring the total to 29,904 job losses since March 2024 and 62,506 since June 2023.

“The reasons we’ve talked about and talked about repeatedly are both the tariff war that came under President Trump, and the depression that the United States was already experiencing due to a lack of sales and purchase orders,” said Chihuahua delegate Marcelo Vázquez. “So if there are no purchase orders, there’s no production in the maquiladora industry, and employees have to be sent home.”

The state of Chihuahua along with the Mexican federal government announced last week a plan to boost economic development and assist maquiladoras and industry in Juárez.

Several cities in Mexico were selected for this plan called ‘Polos de Bienestar’ or wellness poles, which aim to give fiscal benefits to selected cities like juárez.

It also promotes more investments in machinery and equipment for the industry.

Nicole Ardila

This Memorial Day, one organization is hosting a “Flower On Every Grave” at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery, to honor each and every life lost serving for this country.

Victory for Veterans hosts this event every year, now at 12 cemeteries around the country — Fort bliss being one of them.

Their mission is to reduce veteran suicides.

“There’s a lot of stories of valor, there’s a lot of stories of sacrifice and when you walk through that cemetery, you are reminded of our solemn duty to honor those who have given so much right as we place a rose at the foot of their grave,” says Mikel Burroughs, CEO of VFV.

VFV hopes that the community including businesses, volunteers, and individuals to help place those roses on every grave all to commemorate the people who sacrificed, left their families, all to defend our country.

“We’re just not placing flowers, we’re ensuring that our heroes feel our gratitude and that every headstone becomes a beacon of remembrance,” said Burroughs.
