Applications For Safe And Sane Fireworks Booths Open Now

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) – Applications are now open for non-profit organizations who wish to set up booths and sell fireworks for the Fourth of July.
The Santa Maria Fire Department says it’s never too early to think about the Fourth of July, since we’re currently in a year-round fire season.
Guidelines for non-profits who want to sell fireworks include being an established 501(c)(3) for two years minimum, and having their primary meeting place in Santa Maria or Orcutt.
Officials say their primary concern when it comes to preparing for the Fourth of July is the prolific use in years past of illegal fireworks.
Last year, a record number of citations for illegal fireworks were issued, and fire officials say that simply means they’re getting better at tracking their sale and use.
