Winter storm claims lives of three boys in North Texas

BONHAM, Texas (KTBS) — Three boys are dead after falling through the ice of a frozen pond in Bonham on Monday afternoon.
The victims were playing on the ice-covered water when the surface gave way. Emergency responders arrived at the private property shortly after 3 p.m. following a 911 call regarding children in distress.
Bonham Fire Department divers recovered the children from the water. Lifesaving measures were performed at the scene before the boys were transported to TMC Bonham Hospital. Medical staff later pronounced all three deceased.
Authorities have not yet released the names or ages of the victims pending notification of extended family.
The tragedy occurred on the third day of a winter storm that has brought record low temperatures to the south.
