(Cougars add to their trophy case).

Derek Garcia snapped a fourth quarter tie with a short touchdown run that proved to be the game-winner as Ventura outlasted Arroyo Grande 35-28 to win the CIF Regional Division 3-AA Bowl Game.

(Garcia scores early in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run).

The Cougars advance to their first ever CIF-State championship bowl game where they will meet St. Ignatius of San Francisco who beat Monte Vista 17-13. The CIF will announce the details of next weekends championship game soon.

Twenty-five years ago Ventura defeated Arroyo Grande to win a CIF-Southern Section title.

This time they were both section champions and were both making their first ever appearance in a CIF bowl game.

Ventura struck first with as the UNLV-bound Garcia tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to standout receiver Jack Cunningham.

The home Eagles answered back by scoring on their first possession as quarterback Jacob Kreowski swung the ball to star Caleb Clark who spun out of a tackle and scored from 15 yard out but the point after was blocked so AG trailed 7-6.

In the second quarter Ventura got back in the end zone as on 4th and four, Garcia threw a beautiful 19-yard touchdown strike to Tristan Savage and the Cougars led 14-6.

Late in the first half, the Eagles Caleb Clark struck again as he took a pitch and raced 49-yards for the touchdown and Clark also ran in the two-point conversion to tie it at 14 at half.

First place from scrimmage in the third quarter Arroyo Grande grabbed their first lead of the game when Zack Tayman broke a couple of tackles on his way to a 49-yard touchdown run and the Eagles led 21-14.

But Ventura did not wait long to respond as Savage ripped off a 61-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession to tie it up at 21.

Savage struck again in the third quarter scoring his third touchdown of the game, this one an 8-yard td run to put Ventura up 28-21.

But AG tied the game before the quarter ended as Clark got the hat trick with his third touchdown of the game, an 8-yard run made it 28-28.

(Clark gave opponents fits in the Eagles postseason run).

Garcia provided the only touchdown of the fourth quarter, a 4-yard run with 10:24 left in the game.

Ventura drained the last six minutes or so of the clock with some key third down conversions as they improve to 13-2 on the year.

Arroyo Grande ends their championship season with a 10-5 record and a CIF-Central Section Division 2 title.

UPDATE: Palm Springs Mayor says city council is not pushing proposed warehouse, asks for public input on complex

John White

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) – Palm Springs Mayor Ron DeHarte is urging public comment from residents following the proposal of a 217-acre industrial complex by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, located between Highway 111 and Interstate 10.

A message from Mayor DeHarte claims he just learned of it Friday and that the city council is not pushing the item through.

“I learned yesterday—like many who read this update—about a proposed 2.85 million sq ft industrial project on Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Trust Land near I-10 and SR-111. This is a massive development involving four concrete tilt-up buildings. You can email me, but your efforts over the next few days will have more impact if you comment directly to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians,” Mayor DeHarte said.

He went on to encourage residents to submit comments on the item before Monday, December 8, 2025, and demand a community meeting from the tribe.

To clarify, the development was slated on a December 10th city council agenda to approve a conformity report, but Mayor DeHarte has since asked to pull the item from the agenda.

Residents can submit comments in writing to Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Associate Planner Mark Tristan at mtristan@aguacaliente-nsn.gov.

News Channel 3 has reached out to the tribe for comment and is awaiting a response.

The Desert Mountain View Business Park Project would include four warehouse buildings ranging in size from 248,000 square feet to 1.14 million square feet. A full description of the project along with potential environmental impacts can be found on the tribe’s website: aguacaliente.org/planning-department.

The report includes maps and renderings of the project.

An environmental impact report found that there will be “significant and unavoidable” air quality impacts. It also calls for the tenant/facility operator to develop a Commute Trip Reduction plan. The project would be built by a private developer and the property would be leased from the tribe.

Break-in at Bend Christmas tree lot can’t dim holiday spirit

Cami Porter

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A Bend Christmas tree lot raising money for a local rehab charity started its morning with an unwelcome surprise. Employees at the Super Thrift Tree Lot say, Friday morning, they discovered that someone had forced their way into a storage shed on the property. Fortunately, the shed didn’t hold anything valuable; the money box, tools, and generator are all kept off-site after hours.

The theft hit especially hard because proceeds from the lot benefit the Adult and Teen Challenge Program, a faith-based organization that supports people working to overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.

Program coordinator Gregg Huisingh told KTVZ News, if someone needed something, they could’ve just asked. He added, “That’s what we’re here for, to try to help people as much as possible. And that’s what this is for, to provide what we need to help people. That’s exactly what we do.”

Despite the setback, staff members say they’re in good spirits. They’re still filing a police report, but their focus remains on the good that’s come from community generosity this season. Every tree set aside for charity this year has already been paid for and given away — a reminder, they say, that the true meaning of Christmas can’t be stolen.
