Vigil held for dog dumped in trash can

HENDERSON, Nevada (KTNV) — A vigil for Bailey, the dog who was found inside a garbage can and eventually died, was held on Sunday afternoon.
The vigil was held at Pontenza Park at 3 p.m. to honor the life of the dog whose life was cut short after being found barely alive inside a sealed trash bag on Nov. 4. After being found, she was rushed to the vet, where she later died.
Attendees honored Bailey with a bubble release ceremony and collected donations for pet supplies. Dog owners who brought their pets received free pup cups during the memorial event.
Inspirada resident Chantel Corradino said her community has a deep love for their pets, adding that she wanted to give Bailey the send-off she felt he deserved.
“I woke up at 4:30 in the morning, the first thing on my Facebook was our Inspirada group page, and it showed a video of this poor baby on the sidewalk in the trash bag fighting for his life, and it just struck me, and it sat with me,” Corradino said. “I think we’re all just so shocked, and it was like we need to do something. Something needed to be done.”
Corradino said the city of Henderson will be donating a tree and a bench in Bailey’s name to be placed in the city’s parks as a permanent memorial.
Bailey’s owner, 60-year-old Randy Katz, is accused of animal cruelty and is expected to be back in court on Dec. 2.
