ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Maryland (WJZ) — A 58-year-old man was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at children Christmas carolers in front of his Anne Arundel County home this past weekend.

Three 12-year-old girls were spreading holiday cheer in the Epping Forest neighborhood when they knocked on the door of Paul Brian Susie, who lives in the 1700 block of Point No Point Drive in Annapolis.

According to charging documents obtained by WJZ, the man showed up in a bay window next to the home and pointed a handgun at the carolers, sending them running away.

Susie admitted he was the man involved in the incident, documents showed. Officers located the loaded gun in a safe.

He was charged with three counts each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment, the Banner reports, along with one count of wearing and carrying a handgun while under the influence.

“It’s an assault because pointing a handgun at an individual is a threat of violence against that individual, a threat to their safety,” said Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Marc Limansky.

Susie was released from custody after posting a $10,000 unsecured bond. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on December 17.

An officer wrote in charging documents that, “Given Susie’s reckless behavior in pointing a loaded firearm at a group of non-threatening twelve year old’s he could clearly see on his well-lit stoop, his loud and belligerent behavior during my conversation with him, and his admission of consuming an alcoholic beverage I know through my training, knowledge, and experience Susie was likely under the influence.”

Thanksgiving help in Central Oregon, deals and support

Tracee Tuesday

BEND, Ore. [KTVZ] — For many Central Oregonians, the cost of Thanksgiving this year feels tougher despite some good news on food prices. Rising living expenses alongside reduced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are making it increasingly difficult for families to put a complete holiday meal on the table. More than 23,000 households in Central Oregon rely on SNAP for food assistance, and many face hard choices as benefits have been cut or delayed due to federal funding issues.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the average cost to cook a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people is about $55.18 in 2025, which is approximately $5.52 per person. This marks the third consecutive year of price declines, representing a 5% drop from last year’s cost. The centerpiece turkey has seen a significant price decrease, with a 16-pound frozen turkey averaging around $21.50 — down more than 16% from 2024. However, fresh turkey prices have risen slightly. Despite these declines, the current cost still does not erase the record-high increases seen in 2022 when the average meal cost $64.05.

Thanksgiving expenses extend beyond the dinner plate. Survey data from LendingTree shows that hosts in 2025 expect to spend an average of $487 on food, drinks, and decorations, which is up 13% compared to last year.

For those looking to save time and money, grocery stores such as Safeway/Albertsons and Fred Meyer are offering various options ranging from pre-cooked meals starting around $60 to do-it-yourself packages priced between $57 and $80. These convenient bundles include staples like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pies, and even wine at Fred Meyer.

Kristen Gillis from OnPoint Community Credit Union offers practical financial tips for families striving to manage Thanksgiving costs without relying on SNAP, “Shopping early and spreading out your purchases so you don’t just do it on one paycheck right away or last minute. Compare prices and use your loyalty programs. A lot of grocery stores have some kind of loyalty programs.” Gillis also said, “Bonus points – look at those. Reuse, repurpose, recycle, use old Thanksgiving decor; creating and tracking a budget, making sure that you are staying on track.”

Gillis also encourages families to reach out for local support resources early to alleviate financial pressure around the holidays.

Several Central Oregon organizations provide Thanksgiving meals and assistance for those in need, including: Shepherd’s House Ministries, NeighborImpact, St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Nativity Lutheran Church, and PeaceHealth.

For general assistance, dialing 211 or texting a zip code to 898211 connects individuals to local resources and support networks. These options are crucial for many as SNAP benefits decrease and food affordability challenges persist with the holiday season near.

This combination of slowly declining food prices but rising overall holiday spending and SNAP reductions underscores the ongoing financial balancing act faced by Central Oregon families trying to celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and gratitude. Local organizations and practical budgeting advice play a key role in helping ease the burden this year.

Osseo police pitch in to help family after teens steal Grinch inflatable from their yard

By Nick Lunemann

Click here for updates on this story

MINNESOTA (WCCO) — A Minnesota family whose inflatable Grinch was swiped from their front yard is ending the week with a bigger, brighter Grinch and a new story to tell about their local police.

AJ Mansour says his family are “big Grinch people.” They go to the Grinch musical at Children’s Theatre Company each year and have Grinch sweatshirts and stuffed animals, so putting a Grinch inflatable in their Osseo front yard was a natural fit. The decoration had been part of their holiday display for three or four years.

Friday night, the family was upstairs when they heard a loud bang and tires squeal. At first, Mansour’s wife thought there had been a crash in the street. When he went outside to check, the cars were fine, but their Grinch was gone.

Video from the family’s Ring camera showed a white sedan pulling up to the house. A teenager ran into the yard, bear-hugged the inflatable, ripped it from the power cord and stakes, then sprinted back to the car as it sped away.

Osseo police were already in the area on an unrelated call of someone riding on the roof or hood of a vehicle. Lt. Todd Kintzi says officers stopped a white sedan and found four juveniles inside. While they were interviewing the teens, a new call went out about a stolen yard ornament a few blocks away.

Officers soon realized it was the same car. They were able to recover the Grinch from the vehicle, but it had been damaged and deflated. Police contacted the teens’ parents, impounded the vehicle for other violations and issued citations to the driver, but did not pursue theft charges.

Instead, Kintzi says the officers decided to pool their own money and quietly buy the family a replacement.

The next night, while the Mansours were out to dinner, their Ring camera pinged again. This time, it was Osseo officers at the door with a brand new Grinch inflatable for the couple’s two sons.

Mansour calls the new version an upgrade. It stands about a foot taller than the original, lights up at night and includes Max, the Grinch’s dog, as part of the display.

The family says the gesture turned a frustrating moment into a lesson they can share with their kids about grace, consequences and kindness. Mansour likes to point back to the story’s original source material — where the Grinch’s heart “grows three sizes” — and hopes the teens involved and others who see the story take that to heart.

Kintzi says the act fits Osseo’s identity as a small city that still feels like a small town, even in the middle of the metro. The department has 13 sworn officers covering about a square mile and prides itself on knowing many of the residents they serve.

Mansour says Osseo police did not have to replace a damaged lawn ornament, but the fact that they did is what he and his family will remember each Christmas when they plug in their Grinch and watch it rise.

Man arrested after allegedly driving SUV at LGBTQIA+ running club members

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (WPTV) — A 43-year-old man was arrested Monday night after police say he drove a sport-utility vehicle at members of a local LGBTQIA+ running club in West Palm Beach, made multiple attempts to strike them and then fled the scene.

The West Palm Beach Police Department responded about 8:20 p.m. to a park along the 1300 block of Parker Avenue after members of the running club reported that a driver in a Ford Bronco accelerated toward the group.

Witnesses told officers the driver made a second attempt to hit runners, then drove recklessly across sidewalks, through grass and up an embankment before leaving eastbound on Okeechobee Boulevard, according to the department.

Officers issued a lookout for the described vehicle and shortly afterward observed a person matching the suspect’s description pull into a parking garage in the 700 block of North Dixie Highway and remove the vehicle’s license plate.

Police say they took the driver, identified as Ihab Mustafa El Mahmoud, into custody in the garage without incident.

Investigators say El Mahmoud became upset after a perceived comment by a male member of the running club, which led to his agitation and the alleged actions.

The department has charged El Mahmoud with two counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony and one count of reckless driving. Prosecutors are reviewing the case for possible enhancement under Florida’s hate crime statute.

The West Palm Beach Police Department provided the information in a statement on the incident. It did not immediately release further details about injuries or the status of the investigation. The case remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Residents say they’re living in “deplorable conditions” at West Side Chicago Housing Authority complex

By Jermont Terry

CHICAGO (WBBM) — Neighbors on Chicago’s West Side said they are frustrated with the conditions inside their Chicago Housing Authority complex, describing the conditions as “deplorable.”

They’ve been fighting housing officials over the issues they’ve been dealing with, from bad plumbing to visible mold, and urging CHA to take action and take them seriously for years.

“I like my place, but it’s just not livable for me,” Javan Clayton said.

Residents of Harrison Courts Apartments are looking for their units to get fixed from what they say are ongoing problems.

“I want to be moved up out here until CHA fix they buildings and I can move back in it,” Clayton said.

Clayton moved into the CHA units on the West Side just over a year ago.

“When I moved in, they painted it up. But as the months was going down, everything was falling apart, and the mold around the bathroom, the tub … windows,” she said

she claims he mold had quickly revealed itself.

“When you look at the buildings and the brick, it looks real nice on the outside.”

Yet Rev. Robin Hood said the conditions on the inside lack basic repairs. He and residents said it goes beyond mold to rats, roaches, and leaking roofs in the majority of 122 units in the seven-story buildings.

“It’s not right, they have to fix this, you can’t allow people to live like this,” Hood said.

Back in May, CHA announced it had plans to place these units up for sale. Harrison Court falls under a special contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it places restrictions on how cha can use federal housing dollars for repairs and redevelopment. Essentially, CHA said it had limited funds available to fix up the place, but residents are asking what happens until the property is sold.

“CHA, if they sold this property, it will be two to three years. Nobody is crazy who’s going to buy a building like this in these conditions,” Hood said.

“That leaves me stuck in this raggedy apartment still,” Clayton said.

Rev. Hood said residents are falling ill constantly from the deplorable conditions. This week, he’s calling on CHA leaders and Mayor Brandon Johnson to finally step up.

“If we have to get them lawyers, we gonna get them lawyers. If we have to sue and protest for weeks, I don’t mind doing it because this is unacceptable,” Hood said.

CHA said it will listen to the concerns of its residents.

Full statement from the Chicago Housing Authority “We want to assure residents that we are listening to their concerns. This summer we released the first resident survey in recent memory so that we can better understand what’s working and what’s not working for our residents. We will be reviewing the results of this survey soon, as well as discussing with resident leadership. We have also increased staffing in our Property and Asset Management Team to provide better oversight of our third-party property managers.”

Community illuminates terminally ill man’s birthday with Christmas magic: ‘Overwhelmed with love’

HANOVER COUNTY, Virginia (WTVR) — Christmas came early to a Mechanicsville couple Saturday as the community answered a wife’s call to spread holiday cheer for her husband’s birthday celebration while he battles stage 4 terminal cancer.

George and Renee Bond welcomed neighbors and strangers to their Fullview Avenue home for a Christmas lights extravaganza in George’s honor.

The couple, who are both 69, met nearly four decades ago when music brought them together.

“We started out as friends, then we started singing a few songs together,” George, who was known as “Jammin George” for his guitar playing, said earlier this week.

The pair formed a band and blended their families, spending the next 37 years making memories together.

“She’s my living angel,” George said.

Unfortunately, a stage 4 terminal cancer diagnosis disrupted the future the music partners had planned.

“My husband has stage 4 terminal cancer,” Renee said. “As aggressive as this has been, I feel like we’ll be lucky to have him through Christmas.”

Despite the uncertainty, Renee was determined to ensure George’s remaining time would be filled with joy. When he became too sick for planned outings, she invited the community to bring Christmas lights to fill their backyard for his birthday celebration on Saturday.

“Since he wanted to show y’all the lights, let’s show him the lights,” Renee said.

The celebration brought together dozens of community members who decorated the couple’s fence, tree line and every available space with twinkling lights.

“To have all these people coming together shows me their love for me… It’s beautiful,” George said.

Saturday’s celebration started at 3 p.m. and was open to anyone seeking love and laughter under the lights.

“We just want you to come and share the love, it’s not about what you bring and to give him a birthday present is just you showing up,” Renee said.

“I want his children to have this memory instead of a grief memory,” Renee said.

Anchored in their faith, the couple plans to share their final days together finishing their beautiful ballad.

“I know when I get on the other side, it’s going to be another party going on,” George said.

Woman, grandchildren found safe after spending night lost in Caesars Head State Park

GREENVILLE COUNTY, South Carolina (WLOS) — Three children and one adult who were lost overnight in Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina have been safely located, officials confirmed.

The four hikers will be evaluated by EMS before being reunited with their families. It is still unclear how well-prepared they were for the hike or what conditions they faced overnight, officials said.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office announced via social media that the four hikers, who are a grandmother and three grandchildren, were found safe on the Bill Kimball Trail with no major injuries.

“I know she was talking and very coherent about where she was and what happened, and they didn’t make me aware of any medical issues,” said Sheriff Hobart Lewis about Tonda Michelin, the three children’s grandmother.

Sheriff Lewis said the hikers were found in very rugged terrain, from which they had to be helicoptered out.

“It’s rough. There are some trails there, some for more experienced hikers than others. Hurricane Helene turned over a bunch of trees that were down there and covered a lot of those trails up. So, there’s some signs that are gone,” he added.

Officials with the Cedar Mountain Fire Department, which covers that area, said they often respond to that area for lost hikers.

Cal Poly Volleyball:

Six total Mustangs earned Big West honors led by Emme Bullis and Kendall Beshear earning first team nods.

Emme Bullis / All-Big West First TeamBullis, a redshirt senior from Whitewater, Wis., received her fourth career all-conference nod after a pair of honorable mentions in 2022-23 and a second-team placement last season. She broke through to the first team this year in a milestone season, cementing her status as one of the most legendary setters in the program’s Division I era.

Bullis not only eclipsed 1,000 assists for the third time in her career but also became just the fourth Mustang in the program’s Division I history to reach the coveted 4,000-assist milestone. Her career tally of 4,159 ranks fourth in Cal Poly’s record book, just 86 behind third-place Carly O’Halloran (1999-02) and 121 from second-place Taylor Nelson (2014-17).

Arguably Cal Poly’s most versatile player this season, Bullis bolstered her case as one of the Big West’s premier players. She set career highs in kills (56), total attempts (150), hitting percentage (.273), and points per set (1.00), while also tallying a team-best 11 double-doubles and ranking third on the team in digs (249).

Kendall Beshear / All-Big West First TeamThe sophomore was a dominant and versatile six-rotation player for Cal Poly, serving as a primary offensive weapon and a key defender. After a standout freshman campaign, Beshear elevated her game significantly this season.

Beshear ranks second on the team with 322 kills, averaging 3.16 per set with a .272 hitting percentage. She was the team’s most dangerous server, deploying a lethal jump serve that produced a squad-leading 40 service aces (0.39 per set), which ranked second in the Big West.

A complete player, Beshear also finished fourth on the team in digs with 233 (2.28 per set) and added 50 total blocks (0.49 per set).

Chloe Leluge / All-Big West Second TeamA Big West All-Freshman honoree in her debut season, Leluge was an efficient and formidable presence at the net. She excelled defensively while also establishing herself as one of the nation’s top offensive middle blockers.

Leluge posted a remarkable team-leading .374 hitting percentage, a testament to her smart shot selection and ability to terminate attacks with minimal errors (only 50 on 486 attempts). Her hitting efficiency ranked second in the conference and 52nd nationally, helping the Mustangs remain in the top 25 for team hitting percentage for most of the season.

She also leads the team in blocking, with 109 total blocks for an average of 1.04 per set. This includes 10 solo blocks and 99 block assists, as well as a career-high of 10 total blocks in a single match against Arkansas.

Annabelle Thalken and Emma Fredrick / All-Big West Honorable MentionsThalken recorded 249 kills with a strong .299 hitting percentage and became a key part of the team’s blocking scheme, amassing 72 total blocks for a 0.69 per-set average.

Fredrick, who took on the largest offensive role of her career, led the team in nearly every major offensive category. She racked up a team-high 352 kills, averaging 3.35 per set. While taking the most swings on the team by a wide margin (930 total attacks), she also contributed 30 service aces (0.29 per set) and ranked second on the team in digs with 290 (2.76 per set).

Charlotte Kelly / Big West All-Freshman TeamFor the second consecutive season, Cal Poly is represented on the All-Freshman Team. Kelly was a defensive stalwart at the net, forming a formidable blocking duo with Chloe Leluge and providing a dependable offensive option in the middle.

Stepping into the role vacated by last season’s All-Big West First Team selection Breklyn Pulling, Kelly rose to the challenge. She ranks second on the team with 107 total blocks, averaging 1.02 per set. She also made the most of her offensive opportunities, scoring 149 kills with an excellent .315 hitting percentage, one of the highest on the team.
