Paving scheduled for Cook Street in Palm Desert next month

City News Service

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) – Cook Street in Palm Desert will be paved from Dec. 1- 16 for a pipeline construction project, the Coachella Valley Water District announced.

Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane while the southbound lanes will be unaffected. Eastbound traffic at intersections throughout Cook Street will have limited access at night, officials added.

The work is part of the WRP-10 low-pressure pipeline project, which officials said will expand the water district’s delivery capacity to serve nonpotable recycled water to more customers throughout the valley, reducing groundwater pumping for outdoor irrigation.

The project is also intended to address long-term water management goals by safeguarding the local groundwater basin for future generations, the CVWD said.

From Dec. 1-4, the public can expect day work from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the following areas:   — Paving through the Belmonte Drive intersection on Dec. 1;   — Paving from Merle Drive to Green Way on Dec. 2;   — Paving from Green Way to Hovley Lane East on Dec. 3;   — Paving from Hovley Lane East to Riviera Drive on Dec. 4.

Night road work was scheduled on Dec. 10-11 from 7 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. in the following areas:   — Paving from the WRP-10 entrance, south of Sheryl Avenue to MerleDrive, and through the intersections at Merle Drive and Green Way on Dec. 10;   — Paving through the intersection at Hovley Lane East on Dec. 11;

Day work will resume again on Dec. 15-16, with striping work from the CVWD’s WRP-10 entrance to Riviera Drive from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public was advised to use alternate routes and expect delays around the affected areas. The road work schedule might change due to inclement weather or field conditions, and any updates will be posted at cvwd.org/civicalerts.aspx?AID=481.

Intoxicated man jumps fence, falls 50 feet down cliff at Clark Hill Rest Stop

Maile Sipraseuth

BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — First responders gathered at the Clark Hill rest stop near Ririe this afternoon after a Wyoming man, who police believe was intoxicated, survived a fall after jumping over a protective fence and rolling an estimated 50 feet down a cliff face.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies said it appears the man was at the rest stop since the night of Wednesday, November 26th. Preliminary details indicate the man had previously hitched a ride to the location and planned to meet family at the stop.

After the family arrived, he reportedly ran away from them, jumping a protective fence, then bounced down a steep slope into some brush that prevented him from falling the entire length of the cliff face into the river below.

The individual was located and retrieved by first responders early Thursday afternoon. The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that he is alive, though his specific medical condition remains unknown at this time. Rescue crews have concluded their search, and the man was transported via ambulance for treatment.

This incident is a reminder to use caution, obey posted safety warnings, and remain behind protective barriers while visiting local rest stop facilities.

Columbia woman charged in Callaway County with child molestation, sodomy

Ryan Shiner

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia woman has been arrested after she was accused of sexually abusing a child in Callaway County over the course of several years.

Samantha Flansburg, 21, was charged Wednesday in Callaway County with statutory sodomy of a child younger than 12 years old and second-degree child molestation. She is being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond and a court date has not been scheduled.

The probable cause statement says the child victim told law enforcement in September that they were abused by Flansburg from 2019-24 and that the victim was 6 years old when the abuse began. The victim described several occurrences of abuse, with the last time occurring when Flansburg would have been considered an adult, court documents describe.

Flansburg allegedly told the victim not to tell anyone about the abuse, the statement says.

Court documents say Flansburg allegedly admitted to one instance of abuse about a year before the victim moved away.

A witness described as the victim’s mother allegedly told deputies she at one point noticed a number of signs of possible abuse occurring because of the victim’s behavior, the statement says.

InterServ celebrates goal of adopting seniors for the holidays

Patrick Holleron

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — More than 40 senior citizens will receive a helping hand this holiday season thanks to local residents and the city’s longest-standing social service organization.

InterServ Community Programs had 41 seniors referred to the program and all of them have been adopted by someone in the community prior to Thanksgiving.

While nearly all the seniors are adopted on a yearly basis, Resource Development Director Rachel Kretzer explained that this year it happened a “little quicker” than normal.

“All 41 of our seniors have been adopted since early last week and have been assigned an angel. That makes us really excited,” Kretzer said. “Our senior referrals came from the Meals on Wheels, in-home caregiver services, congregate meal services, and our senior counseling. The angels have been matched with their wish list and have started shopping. We hope to deliver all of those gifts before Christmas.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring a senior meal can make a donation of $7.50 to Interserv’s Meals on Wheels and meal services programs.

“All of our programs are geared towards helping seniors,” Kretzer said. “Any contribution you make not only helps now it also helps in the future,”

More information can be found by contacting Kretzer at 816-238-4511 or by emailing her at rkretzer@interservstjoe.org
