Hampton, VA (WTKR) — A person was killed and two more were hurt in a stabbing incident Friday night near the Hampton Coliseum during a Phish performance, police said.

In a release put out Saturday, Hampton police described this as an “isolated incident.” They added that all parties involved were identified. Hampton police said a person of interest who fled the scene was found and detained nearby — police have yet to confirm whether this is the suspect in connection with this incident.

An increased police presence is expected to be near the Hampton Coliseum as Phish continues the next two shows for their three-night event, according to Hampton police

Phish said they are “deeply saddened” by the incident in a post made on Facebook.

Police say around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, an argument between several people led to a large, violent altercation that left three people injured. One was taken to the hospital where they died; the second person was taken to the hospital — a third walked into the hospital with a laceration.

Hampton police told WTKR News 3 on Saturday that this incident happened near an unofficial merchandise booth in a parking lot outside the Hampton Coliseum. Video captured by WTKR News 3 on Friday did show police tape roping off this area.

This investigation is ongoing — Hampton police say they are continuing to interview witnesses so they can figure out next steps.

WTKR has reached out to police and will update this article as new information comes in about the investigation.

One805Live! Concert Supports First Responders; Oprah, Harry and Meghan Attend

Scott Hennessee

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The One805Live! concert to benefit local first responders rocked along the coastline tonight. Some famous neighbors stopped by Kevin Costner’s Summerland estate to support the fundraiser.

Country music superstar Trisha Yearwood played Santa Barbara for the first time ever, the day after her birthday. She was introduced by Maria Shriver who got the crowd to sing Yearwood happy birthday as she came on stage.

The Fray rocked the stage before Yearwood, getting the crowd into it straight away with their song, Over my Head (Cable Car).

The show closed out with a set from Good Charlotte and a group encore.

Long-time One805 supporter Alan Parsons performed and brought together a host of top entertainers for this one of a kind concert that also featured Steppenwolf’s John Kay, The Car’s Elliot Easton, Donovan Frankenreiter, Plastic Harpoons, and DJ Bad Ash.

The event and the cause drew people in from near and far. Wanda Brennan and Donya Lesterdrove for days to see the show.

“We drove from Cedar Town, Georgia starting last Monday to come to Santa Barbara for this great event,” Brennan said.

It’s all to benefit first responders, and the 805 community came out to support them and have a great time.

“A big shout out to One805, the leadership there,” Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig said. “And of course everyone here is contributing in some way.”

Some of the area’s most famous residents showed their support, including Oprah Winfrey, who attended and chatted with local first responders including Santa Barbara County Sheriff, Bill Brown.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the stage. So did Rob Lowe, who received the Heart of the Community Award.

“To be able to give back is an honor and a privilege,” Lowe said.

First responders attend this event for free. They raised red glow sticks together at dusk as a symbol of the lifeline they provide to the community.

“Thank you for supporting us as we protect your safety,” Brown said to the audience from the stage.

The money raised from the show goes directly to Santa Barbara County first responders, funding mental wellness programs and critical equipment purchases. Organizers announced a one million dollar donation had been made to support an endowment for continued funding.

Thousands pay tribute to fallen firefighters during annual memorial in Colorado Springs

Marina Garcia

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial service created an overwhelming sense of community as the lives lost in 2024 were remembered and celebrated.

Three hundred eleven names were added to the Fallen Firefighters’ Wall of Honor in Colorado Springs on Saturday morning.

Whether a local to Colorado Springs or having traveled from Canada or further, people gathered for one reason: to remember the lives of firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

“When you hear a hundred bagpipes, you know, playing Amazing Grace, it puts shivers down your spine,” says Frank Lima, the general secretary treasurer of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).

The sound of bagpipes, firefighters marching in unity, and chairs filled with mourning families was a beautiful tribute to the impact these fallen firefighters have left behind.

And it reminds active firefighters of their enduring responsibility to the community.

“Being able to wear this flag and honor the people that I work around, and all the fallen. It’s just a great honor, privilege to be able to wear this uniform and do what I do,” says Oscar Navarro, a captain of the Goodyear Fire Department.

A widow we spoke to says being embraced by the IAFF has given her and her family a new appreciation for her late husband and his colleagues.

“I think that’s a big part of grieving is connecting with other people. And, you know, finding out how they…felt about him and how they interacted with him and just things you were never aware of before,” says widow, Kristen Silvestrich.

The IAFF says they have been coming to Colorado Springs for over twenty years, and the welcoming community is why they always come back.

When they come back next year, at least one Colorado Springs firefighter will have his name added: retired captain Patrick Rogacki, who died from job-related cancer this summer.

Bend Bulletin employees picket for new contract

Spencer Sacks

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ News) —  Saturday afternoon, members of the Bend Bulletin along with members from the Central Oregon News Guild picketed in downtown Bend’s Peace Corner, after not finalizing a contract.

The Bend Bulletin was recently bought by Carpenter Media Group.

KTVZ News spoke with Noemi Arellano-Summer, an education reporter, to learn more about some of the changes that have been made since the new ownership came in.

Arellano-Summer told KTVZ News, “definitely means stories have to be done earlier, started earlier. A lot of times, breaking news doesn’t might not make it in the next day’s paper. If we get a breaking news story at 12:30, 1 p.m., it’ll make it online. Definitely. I would say we are digital first, but it won’t make it into the next day’s paper.”

Arellano-Summer also told KTVZ News that the Bend Bulletin workers are picketing to finalize contracts for reporters, photographers among others.

Bulletin workers also expressed concerns about downsizing.

Additionally Arellano-Summer said that Carpenter Media Group has slow walked contract negotiations and making it take longer than it should.

KTVZ News have reached out to Carpenter Media Group but have not heard back.

This is a developing story, KTVZ News will have more as it develops.

D91 Responds to Idaho Falls High School Football Halftime Incident

News Team

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – Following an incident at the Idaho Falls vs. Bonneville football game last night, District 91 has responded with a press release regarding the situation.

The football team entered the field shortly before their scheduled time, causing overlap between their entrance and the halftime performance by the Idaho Falls marching band. Concerns were raised over the two programs coinciding on the field and whether the football team caused disruption to the performing students.

District 91’s press release emphasized they take this incident seriously and value both the football and marching band programs as integral pieces of the Idaho Falls High School community.

“I want to to sincerely apologize for the disruption that occurred during the conclusion of the marching band’s halftime performance,” said head football coach of Idaho Falls HS Joseph Parker. “I regret that this interrupted their performance and took away from the hard work and dedication they put into preparing for the show.”

Dallan Parker, principal of Idaho Falls HS, echoed this sentiment saying “Our students, staff and community take great pride in all our programs. We are implementing new protocols to ensure this does not happen again.”

District 91 also said they remain committed to ensure a positive and respectful environment for all students across the district.
